DownIt - Github for Reading

DownIt turns your GitHub repo into a beautiful place to read, recheck, or editing a small pieces that you forgot right in your pocket. For novelists versioning chapters in git, and developers writing fiction on the side. DownIt makes your markdown a joy to open. READ, THE WAY IT DESERVES Full Markdown rendering, clean typography, syntax-highlighted code blocks, inline images, and links between chapters that actually work. No more squinting at raw .md in a code editor. WRITE WITHOUT LEAVING THE STORY A focused editor with formatting shortcuts, undo/redo, and autosave. Tap a checkbox in a chapter outline and it becomes a real commit — no separate step. RETRO DEVICE, REAL GIT The whole app is a tiny green-phosphor terminal with hardware buttons. Tap COMMIT, PUSH, PULL. Every action is a real Git Data API call, not a sync gimmick — your commit history stays clean and honest. ASK ABOUT YOUR OWN STORY Chat with your favorite AI assistants (Claude, Gemini, Groq, etc.) using your own API key, stored only on your device. Ask what happened in chapters 01 through XX and get an answer grounded in what you actually wrote, not a guess. WORKS OFFLINE Every chapter is cached on-device. Read and edit on a plane with no signal; commits queue locally and push the moment you're back online. FOUR READING THEMES Green, amber, cyan, matte — each in light and dark. Find the one that doesn't fight your eyes at 1am. ONE-TIME PURCHASE No subscription. No ads. No tracking. Buy DownIt once, own it forever. PLUGINS Currently support checklist items, md-rpg & obsidian markdown flavour, more md plugins would come. For every writer whose manuscript already lives in GitHub and wants it to feel like a real place to read, not just a folder of files.
