Good app but freezes
I like using this app to look for dragonflies and damselflies in my area but it often freezes and won’t work unless I leave it alone for some time or delete and reinstall.

There are TONS is species of dragonflies in the world, and this app has excellent information for someone to learn about each species. However, as an “ID (identification)” app, there needs to be some improvements made: when one needs sees a dragonfly in the wild and would like to identify it, you would seemingly need to scroll through all of the species until you found a picture that matches what you saw.
Maybe the developers can put in some kind of ID features from plant- identification apps or bird-identification apps, such as an Identification Engine/Interface: wing markings, abdomen/tail markings/color, thorax, location, etc….. or maybe even a picture identification feature.

Helpful for novices
Very helpful app for those of us who need some ID help!

I guess it’s a good app. Unfortunately I have forgotten my password to log into the website. I have tried many times to have it send me a link but it won’t. So the app doesn’t do me much good.

First time I tried it and I couldn’t find anything that matched. I have lots of experience using keys so I think the dragonfly wasn’t in the database.
Okay but
This app is okay but only one photo per species. Not all species are listed. For example, the Chalk-fronted Corporal dragonfly found in Southern Ontario is absent.
Need to rename app
This app only applies to North America so it should br named as such.
Was Very Helpful
I’m still (now after 3 years) hoping for restoration of the ability to look at records by specific location as detailed in my 3 star review below. That was *very* useful to me. The app remains minimally useful for my purposes but I’m disappointed in the lack of upgrades these past three years and the missing functionality. I wish I had not upgraded to version 2.

In particular what I have been missing in this version for the past year+ has been the ability to look at any destination I might be traveling to and then look at locations in that area where users have reported dragonflies, click on that location and see what had been seen there filtered by timeframe (ie if I’m going to be there in mid-June reports from September are almost certainly not relevant).
In the current version since the revision it is no longer possible to look at a location to see what dragonflies have been found there. One must start by choosing a species to see where it has been found, but even then it is not possible to see what other species may have been found at the same location without going back to the list of species, choosing a different species and looking at its locations.
The old version was very useful for looking at the big picture of what might be flying in a given area at the time of a future trip so I could plan my side excursions for dragonfly outings when attending a class reunion, for example. The app is no longer very useful for that and I use it much less than I used to.

Dragonfly ID has helped me have a much more productive year in terms of whittling away at some of my Lifelist goals. I've been able to find and photograph several speciesi would not otherwise have found on my travels but also not far from home. It's not perfect but a very useful tool and still being developed so I'm looking forward to additional enhancements!

I have long been fascinated with Damsel Flys, and Dragon Flys. This App is great!

It is great to have such a good app to help identify Odonates in a jiffy. I love the pictures, and the maps are great to help have a quick idea if a particular species could be where we are. Also, the descriptions are helpful in the field.

Most of the time, anyway, and a bug in definite need of squashing. Otherwise excellent. . ..
