Minor fix would make it great
I never played this in the arcade and don’t think it was very prevalent at all. I grew up in the 80s and the original was HUGE in the Chuck E. Cheeses and I played that one a ton. I managed to beat that one in the arcade but after finally finishing Time Warp, I doubt anyone could finish it in the arcade.
The first game had 20+ scenes (I’m guessing) that were 3-20 moves. You had to beat all of them and a few in both mirror modes to get to the final scene. This game has about 7 scenes that seem to be 40-100 moves each that are all in order and need to be completed perfectly. This is what makes it difficult but I wouldn’t change it if that’s how the arcade version was.
What I do question is that the first scene is broken into three parts, and once you complete one part, you don’t have to go back to the very beginning of the entire scene. Were all the scenes like this in the arcade, or was it just the first scene that was broken into three smaller parts to make it less aggravating for the casual arcade player? In the arcade without the hints, people MUST have spent a hundred quarters to properly learn a scene to complete it with no mistakes. It’s also aggravating to get sent to the beginning of a scene for a mistake on move 57 on your iPad, but if that’s how it was in the arcade, then it’s OK. (Maybe an option to have mid-scene milestones would be good.)
Provided that the undivided scene progress after the first scene is accurate to the arcade version, my only real complaint is that if you leave the game in the middle, and come back later and select “continue”, the game defaults to displaying hints and giving you 3 lives, even if you were previously playing without hints. So if you want to play through without hints, you have to do it in one sitting.
(There is also a janky transition whenever you grab one of the treasures but I suspect that is an accurate reproduction of the original arcade version.)

Great game,but…
I’m one of the ones who bought into the original version all those years ago but now have to update. That hurt a little bit. But, for five dollars, that’s like playing it 10 times in the old arcade version so I consider it a bargain. However… there is no way to save progress from game to game. You have to do this all in one sitting. It gets really frustrating. it would be really nice if there was a feature to save the game. Apparently this isn’t a big seller so I doubt will see that anytime soon.

Cinematic, Fun and Quick
This is a decent sequel and fun of its own merit. The animation is average for the time, gameplay is quick and exciting and the voice acting is exaggerated and funny. The difficulty progresses well with the exception of item collecting. Two modes can be played: the original full length animation or the shorter arcade edition with the confusing name: Director's Cut. An unlockable third mode for winning is the entire film played without interaction. Settings are robust with resizeable controls and a left handed mode. A very solid 3 star game experience.

Ignore 1 star reviews. Clearly they are from people who do not know this game. This version is an absolutely perfect port of the original from 1988. 5 stars all the way! Maybe we can get an iPad version of Braindead 13 next?
Great game of the past
Both Dragons Lair & Time Warp are very true recreations of the originals. Great graphics and good controls for IPad. They have added hint features to make the game play much easier. They default to on and I recommend turning them off. The game is very hard when move guide (hints) is turned off. I would only recommend turning it on when you get stuck. The game is very good for what it is - a blast from the past. No strategy or level ups. Very Linear. Very fun to try to progress to see story and ending. If you are looking for strategy RPG or FPS this game is not for you.

Suckered
Yes I wasted $5 on this. All you do is hit a directional arrow when queued. It's hard to follow the animation because your focus is on the directional arrow. Buy something that is more interactive.

Too fast
Id like it a bit slower so I can take in the great graphics. I know that would take some of the challenge away but it's so fast you can't see the game. All focus is only on the buttons.
