Risk but Digital:
I love the art for the game and the mechanics, it is a very fun game to play with others and the best part is that it’s digital, so you don’t have to get a bunch of pieces out. (Plus, it feels like it doesn’t take as long Risk takes……..😟)
Hooked
This game does a great job of emulating what it’s like to play a board game. The rules and strategies are very similar to Risk, but with the addition of having to learn the mechanics of naval and air units. At this point, there are no notifications integrated with iOS, so you have to manually notify the next player when it’s their turn if you’re playing asynchronously. This seems to work OK if you have a group chat going with the other players. In fact, it’s a great addition to an already established group chat if you need an activity to stoke the conversation.

Great Risk-style skirmish game
Revised review after a few dozen more games:
Great classic style boardgame. No “victory points” or obscure win conditions, just a board you can look at and tell who’s winning.
I will say there’s not enough incentive to buy air units in the game. I’m not really sure how to solve this. One possibility is making Kraken d12 so that dragons and eagles have more value against navies. I really want to have fun with dragons but can’t find a reason to do it. Eagles are even worse.
Britain is an awkward territory despite being the namesake of the game.
Other than that this is a very deep game that combines great elements from Risk, Axis and Allies, and chess.

Great Risk-style skirmish game
Great game to play with old Risk friends that doesn’t take as much time and adds some more variety in units.
Games are usually fairly short. There’s some strategic depth but red definitely feels more powerful than the other colors.
Some more creature comforts could be added but the core design is fun. For example would like to see 3-player option (1v2). Because starting armies are set it can feel a bit like scenario play where you’re thrown into the middle of a game and one wrong move will sink you. This has been my experience most games as other than good rolling there’s not any comeback mechanisms and games usually snowball.
Still very fun though. I actually like having no AI opponents as it makes it feel like a true board game.
True roll is a cool concept but I don’t quite feel the interactivity with the roll. Some haptic feedback or even just something showing the dice shaking in my hand might let me feel more of the “mojo”

Classic Feel with modern QoL
I remember playing Risk with friends. This gives me the same feeling but with a fresh take. The ability to start a game quickly and play it asynchronously or in real time makes that game experience accessible again without having to plan multiple meetings in person or one long night which is harder to do now that we’re busier. There’s depth in design to get creative yet it’s easy to jump into.
