I want to like this… but RED FLAUpdsateGS!

Update: After several months:
Website still down, BUT… Here is what I wrote for my photo club newsletter:

At a Glance PEEP Rating: ★★★★½

Drone Pilot Helper, or DPH, tries to answer the question every drone pilot eventually asks while staring at the weather: “Yeah, but is it actually good enough to fly?”

Instead of simply displaying temperature and wind, DPH evaluates conditions against limits appropriate for drone flight and produces a simple Safe to Fly or Unsafe verdict. It considers wind, gusts, precipitation, visibility, temperature, and GPS conditions. Pilots can customize the limits to better match their own aircraft.

That last feature is important. A small lightweight drone and a larger aircraft shouldn’t necessarily use the same wind limits. DPH allows pilots to create profiles for individual drones so the app’s recommendations can reflect the aircraft being flown.

The app also provides hourly and seven-day forecasts, sunrise, sunset and Golden Hour information, making it particularly useful to drone photographers. Space-weather monitoring includes the Kp Index, a three-day forecast, and a 27-day outlook using NOAA data.

DPH goes beyond weather by including preflight checklists, flight logs that can record weather conditions, aircraft maintenance tracking, no-fly-zone mapping, NOTAM information, and links to official FAA and EUROCONTROL resources. An Apple Watch companion lets pilots check conditions without pulling out their phones.

The app is also being actively developed. The current listing shows multiple updates during 2026, including improvements to flight windows, space-weather information, offline access, security, and Apple Watch synchronization.

As with any weather application, however, a green Safe to Fly indicator should never replace the pilot’s own judgment or an actual inspection of conditions at the launch site.

Why Drone Photographers Should Care

DPH combines weather, aircraft-specific limits, flight planning, checklists, maintenance records, and logging in one application rather than requiring pilots to jump among several apps.

Best For

Preflight Planning • Weather • Flight Logging • Aircraft Management • Landscape Photography • Apple Watch Users

Pros

Aircraft-specific safety limits
Seven-day flight windows
Wind and gust information
Space-weather monitoring
Flight logbook
Maintenance tracking
Preflight checklists
Apple Watch companion

Cons

Apple ecosystem only
Some advanced features require Pro
Not an FAA authorization service
Safe/Unsafe recommendations should never replace pilot judgment

PEEP Tip

Create a separate profile for every drone you own. Don’t use the same weather limits for a 249-gram Mini and a much larger aircraft. The conditions one handles comfortably may be a good reason to leave the other one in its case.

💪

So sieht ne moderne App aus, wenn man Ahnung vom entwickeln hat. Richtig stark. 🤝 Die App bietet viele Funktionen rund um das Thema „Drohne“ auch die RTH Funktion ist richtig gut. Weiter so!

I want to like this… but RED FLAGS!

I truly want to like this app. The idea of it is great, the free version has enough bells and whistles to make it worth the download, including free flight logger which is cool. It tries to be an “All in one place” app with weather, NOTAMS, Maps and more all in the FREE version. So the idea and the execution of the free version is pretty good.

However, there are a few red flags that one needs to be aware of:

The Website for the developer does not work. This is ALWAYS a red flag.

The name of the developer has to be a pseudonym. While that in itself is not necessarily bad, the fact that there is no way to contact the developer because the website does not work raises another red flag. A Google search using the developer name turns up nothing. Another red flag.

There is a paid version as well, but frankly, I hesitate to give any kind of credit card info to a mystery person.

So..buyer beware?
