still functional w/ iOS 17.1

I just used this app to update alarm settings on a TSX-B72 clock radio, firmware v1.05, running iOS 17.1 on iPhone 15. Process required some patience.

Follow the DTA Controller connection instructions in your device's user manual.

I had iPhone bluetooth turned on, DTA Controller open, and my Yamaha Desktop Audio device on for several minutes, prior to it being recognized in iOS 17.1 Settings > Bluetooth.

Yamaha Desktop Audio products have been discontinued for several years now, and it looks like DTA Controller was last updated in 2018. I expect functionality will be lost in near future, as bluetooth environment continues to evolve.

Not bad for my needs

Had a little trouble at first, I eventually figured it out and it works well. I would recommend this. I’m using the tsx b235, it functions on this unit as described.

Nothing special

When it works it is good. Phone shows app connected and blue indicator light is lit on the unit but app will not change volume. Have to disconnect and reconnect multiple times to get it to work. If I switch between Bluetooth and radio I have to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work. The app will say that it is not connected when the phone says it is. Other than that I love the radio. A remote control would have been a better idea than Bluetooth. Or maybe both.

Working perfectly with TSX-B72

Whatever problems earlier reviewers had, they are not apparent to me. Clock and alarm settings etc using this app are easy and straightforward. Perhaps others were expecting more handholding help menus or expansive features ? It’s just a small basic tabletop audio player folks. It does everything Yamaha promised, nothing more, nothing less.

Less functionality than expected.

The unit itself does not play M4A songs from Bluetooth or USB, Just M4P. Other commercial speakers like JBL have no issue playing this stuff.

To use the intelli alarm feature you need to connect with Bluetooth and pair the device, but the intelli alarm cannot use Bluetooth as a source for the alarm, even though the speaker can play music via Bluetooth (as long as the songs are in the right format). This is just bizarre.

The USB has zero functionality with an iPhone beyond charging.

I plan on burning a playlist to a CD to see if it will play that, but I’m not hopeful if the songs aren’t the right files, so I will probably get it to work by using a file converter for the select playlists I want to use on the intelli alarm.

Overall it’s quite a hassle and it doesn’t appear that much support is being given to the app or the unit to keep it updated with the highest functionality/compatibility.

If I’d known all of this about the app I probably would have thought twice before buying the Yamaha speakers.

Update: I have been able to convert my songs to a format that the unit recognizes and burned it to a CD, which will play successfully.

The problem is largely the intelli alarm. It is hardly what I would consider “customizable.” It requires the unit be set to “Source + Beep” rather than just “Source” to even work. I thought I could never hate a morning wake up beep more than the classic sound most of us know. This one... this is worse, it’s like an uzi machine-gun of beeping, it’s unbelievable. Why won’t you let me just use source with intelli alarm!? Also, why am I limited to a time of 0-3 minutes of fade time? Why can’t I have more fade time?

All of this adds up to a bunch of stuff that as arbitrary rules put in place on a product that really could be outstanding with a sliver more of customizability.

Anyway, sadly getting the unit to work as well as it can with the app doesn’t let me give this any more stars, this just isn’t the product I thought it would be.
