This is my dream app!

I'm ADHD, in my 40s, a parent and work full time.

I freaking LOVE this app.

I do best with variety of resources for language learning, and this app has been a much-needed addition for my ADHD brain and its relentless ability to procrastinate even the things I _want_ to do😫

I have three target languages that I am working on (Brazilian Portuguese, Catalan and French) and have a variety of language apps and books I like, but I do not have the time or focus to routinely sit for long periods of time and slog away on language learning.

I’ve deleted many language apps after realizing they take more effort to set up than I have energy to lock in.

My language learning looks like sporadic deep dives into vocabulary or verb conjugation (or obscure history on something vaguely related) and then I zoom out and get back to everything else in my life that I’m responsible for (parenting, work, house maintenance… )

In between those rabbit holes, I regularly listen to current news podcasts and a few other podcasts in the target languages until another rabbit hole catches my attention.

Low comprehension in the most recent target language? I don’t care, I am triumphant in catching the five words needed to recognize what news item they’re covering that I already know about🤩🤩🤩 The auto-generated transcripts available while you listen in Spotify or Apple Podcast are super helpful, but…

If I actually want to look up words or phrases (or whole chunks), the process I was using is a time suck. I was not doing it as often as I wanted to.

The e-Clair app does what it says it does. It makes learning from podcasts super streamlined.

It's easy to set up. You basically chose what language you want things translated into then add what you want to listen to (for me: podcasts).

From there it’s like a regular podcast player (has a library, it knows where you left off, you can go back or skip forward, change the play-back speed, etc) but with way more features.

Want to translate every sentence as you go? Easy. Tap a word in the sentence with a long pause. A popup opens up with the translation and you can tap options to save it to in-app flashcards or in-app notes. Then you go right back to listening.

If your earbuds or headphones have their own button or tap control to pause or play, the app recognizes it.

Listening while doing something else and a word catches your ear that you want to look up? Same deal, just pause listening and tap that word. The translation pops up and you have the option to save it as a flash card and/or add it to your in-app notes.

For me, this is FANTASTIC.

This removes a ton of initiation barriers by having it all in one app.

I can easily just listen while doing other things.

But if something catches my ear, I just pause it and tap on the word to look it up (and make a flashcard if I want).

Adding a podcast feed to the app is pretty easy (I use the rss link option). I google to find the direct link for that podcasts’s rss feed. Then, in the app, just tap the add button in the app and paste the link in the add window. That’s it.

The developer really welcomes feedback, the app is a work in progress but already does a LOT with ease.

Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. Download the app, you’ll love it.
