About

Ecash App is an open source, transparent Fedimint wallet. It is an easy to use payments wallet, but allows for power users to access the full suite of Fedimint features. It works with every federation. Join a federation, hold ecash notes on your device, and pay. There is no account to create and no sign-up. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Pay and receive over Lightning — scan a QR code, paste an invoice, or open an LNURL link. • Claim a Lightning Address, so anyone can pay you at a name that reads like an email address. • Send and receive on-chain bitcoin, and watch deposits as they confirm. • Hand ecash to someone directly, as a string of text, with no payment network in between. • Discover federations over Nostr, and preview one before you join it. • Keep balances in several federations at once and switch between them. • Find nearby merchants that accept bitcoin, using BTC Map. • Sync your friend's payment information using Nostr • Lock the app with a PIN. NOTHING HIDDEN • Every fee, itemized, before you confirm a payment. • The Lightning gateways a federation has registered, and the one your payment will route through. • The on-chain UTXOs the federation holds. • The denominations of the ecash notes making up your balance. BACKUP AND RECOVERY Your wallet comes from a standard seed phrase. Write it down once, and you can restore your balances on another device. Recovery walks through each federation and restores what it finds.

What's New in Ecash App

0.12.0

October 27, 2026

- Tap to send ecash on Android 12+ - an NFC tap starts an encrypted Bluetooth Low Energy transfer. Receiving is always on while the app is open, and Bluetooth permission is requested on first tap - Federation shutdown support - a banner and expiration screen when a federation announces it is shutting down, with a one-tap join of its successor federation. New receives and Lightning Address registrations are blocked on expiring federations - Guardian screen with each guardian's session count and a consensus status bar, also shown in the federation preview - Redesigned Federation Info screen - Faster federation preview - opens immediately while it loads, offers Retry when guardians are unreachable, and reuses the downloaded config when you join - Recovered funds now appear as an entry in the transaction history - Gateway selection moved into the federation picker on the amount screen - Remove a Lightning Address from settings - Floating glass navigation bar on the dashboard that scales with system text size - Pull to refresh on the dashboard, and the balance fills more of the screen at rest - Portrait orientation is now locked on Android and iOS - Fixed On-chain "Max" sweeps ignoring federation fees (Wallet V1 and V2) - Fixed receive amounts being capped at your current balance when creating a Lightning invoice - Lossless amount formatting and integer fiat math (no more rounding drift) - Stricter LNURL-withdraw callback validation and timeout handling - Federation announcements whose invite code doesn't match the announced federation are now rejected - Federation picture URLs keep their query string and fragment - Ecash redeem sheet now sizes to its content - Update-available toast disabled on iOS - macOS minimum version raised to 12.0
