Used to be a worthwhile read!

Same stories over and over! Some as old as 4 days!
Used to faithfully check site for news, now don’t even look at it!

Previous subscriber

I use to pay the annual subscription but the one touch (or one light brush while scrolling) ad links are way too frustrating to keep using the app, even the free version. I will not subscribe again until that is changed

Brutal

Never works. If you subscribe you’re always signing in.
Not as reliable as paper. Sports Feed Quit.

Not as reliable as paper

You asked

I hate the fact that the Journal is becoming a far right rag- still employing David Staples as a UCP apologist and other editorial and columns leaning the same way. The paper is smaller andless frequent despite costing more.

Worst news reading app

News stories are slow or don’t refresh. This is a surprisingly clunky app in 2024.

Doesn’t Work

I get a screen of Sorry Our Services Are Not Available At This Time

Do not get this app

Don’t get this. Even as a subscriber, many of the stories just contain the lede and nothing else. The ads and videos keep flashing in and out making it a terrible reading experience. If you want the Journal, you’re best off going to the website rather than trying to use this Post Media garbage app.

Lame. Downgrade negative 10 update lame

Bring back the old version. This sucks big time. My iPad got the update and now is pointless. My iPhone I had to stop auto updates to prevent it. Go back and get it right. It is terrible.

Update

Stories like Edmonton oilers post game are empty beyond the headline. Ironically I go to google free access or web without signing in and I can read it. Lame lame lame lame

Needs you to register and sign in

Keep your old app if you have it this new one will lock articles behind a sign-in. Government funded pay wall, LOL

New update is HORRIBLE

Thanks, Dave. App is horrible. Do not update, do not download. I honestly used to love it and used it everyday. Now? Nope. Most of the stuff you can’t access anyway.

Dont update or use

Literally does not work, says create an account, ok, try and create an account and nothing happens, works. Like did they never ask ‘Dave’ to test the app out once to see if it works? Cause it doesn’t!

Does not Refresh; “Upgraded” App is Really Bad

Update April 2024: I thought this app was a barely adequate, marginal and buggy digital representation of this once great newspaper but now the visionaries at Postmedia have outdone themselves - it’s really terrible now. I read the paper on my tablet and they have “upgraded”this app to make my paper reading experience like I am on my phone. Lots of blank space, no “front page”, no pictures, impersonal and generally bad. This app just makes me sad. Digital newspapers could be so much better; Postmedia has zero understanding, awareness or concern for that or their readers generally. Bad. Previous Review from Late 2023: This app has been pretty bug-ridden for a long time. I blame Postmedia for not allocating appropriate resources to their digital distribution. The code writers are doing their best while the people actually responsible seemingly respond with a shrug. The app does not refresh and it does not allow you to sign in without another window needing to be populated. When I sign into that pop up, it does not refresh back to the app so I need to read the paper on an external (smaller) window. The solution is to delete and reinstall the app. Not great at 5am when you just want to read the paper. The Edmonton Journal was once a great paper. Generations of my family have read it. It actually had local news with local writers. It still has some of that but the numbers of those local professionals has been greatly diminished. The digital versions are maybe a sign of the decline of journalism. Postmedia has certainly demonstrated they don’t really care about quality of digital distribution, among other things.

JournalHas become an irksome journey

Don’t update!!!!!

CBC will be my only news source now

I guess I’ll go to CBC for all my news now. EJ is no longer free, shows only a few articles and then you need to be a subscriber, and it’s still full of ads.

Used to be a good site

Should never have done the update as now this site is being deleted!
You’ve ruined what was once an informative site but now you’re just trying to sell trash!
The old adage applies here not to “ mess with a good thing”! They did it and now don’t waste your time!

New Version

The new update is terrible! You think they would trial these before they make them go live.

Paying for what?

I can’t believe this is now a paid service. I’ve just deleted the app and I’ll go elsewhere.

No more obituaries???

Where are the obituaries? After this latest update they have been completely removed. Why is that? Need to bring them back

Apparently the displayed advertisements were not enough

Now have to subscribe…
