Abysmal search facility
The only search facility is a taxonomic or alphabetical list of names! No ability to scroll through family or species images. Unless you start off with a good knowledge of the birds of India it’s a long, frustrating method to identify a bird. App needs a major update. At £30 a complete waste of money. Should have stuck with the book!

No search based on images!
I’m a professional zoologist and field researcher. Whilst there ARE good illustrations and maps the search interface is a list of names!
If you don’t know the birds of India (presumably why you are buying a guide - FFS) you have to take stabs at the names - there is no way to compare what you see with an image UNTIL you have clicked through a name.
Buy a hardcopy guide.

Lacking!
There is no audio for any birds! Have not run across this in more than a decade of using bird apps. Some of the bird drawings are just not very good and don’t adequately show key details.
Very nice app
This app very useful especially when you go out for bird photography and want to know more about sighted bird quickly
Very Basic and not worth the high price
The reviews from 4-5 years ago still hold true. This is an expensive electronic version of the book, but with no dynamic features like sound files of calls, or even the ability to filter likely species by region. A number of species are missing range maps or illustrations, and a couple are switched (text pertains to different species than the one shown). Very shoddy product for the price and in desperate need of some easy upgrades and fixes to make it comparable to other electronic bird guides.

Disappointing
What a waste of money! The app is no use because it is not a page by by page replica of the book by Inskipp although the app photo is that of Inskipp’s book. The app is just an indexed list and that serves no purpose because when you see a bird in field you do not know it’s name. You do know where roughly it could be and that is helped by page by page replica of the book. I sincerely hope the developer sees this review and agrees to take back the app against refund. Cleverly, the “contact us” feature does not work on the app and one can not send mail thru the app. These kinds of app developers are a disgrace to Apple Store.

Great App - some mistakes
This is a great App, with ease of sightings recording. There are numerous species that are switched (e.g., picture and descriptions/distributions for Small Niltava are those for Pygmy Flycatcher, and vice versa - there are quite a few like this), without picture (e.g., Alexandrine Parakeet, again, quite a few like this), or without distribution map (e.g., Indian Peafowl, would you believe!, which also misses out on a picture!). As this is basically a carbon copy of the excellent handbook, these errors should be readily fixable.
A request - please add in calls for the various species - the vast majority can be sourced through one or other internet repository. It would be really helpful to click on a Phylloscopus species and hear its call shortly after seeing it to assist in identification.
Otherwise an excellent App.

Unusable for identifying birds
Unusable app. Gives you a list of hundreds of birds without being able to see any bird unless you click on it. How are you supposed to identify or even find a bird you've spotted?
Very disappointed and a big waste of money.

Mismatch between bird visual and the description
Pheasant tailed jacana has the description of bronze winged jacana, bronze winged of crab plover, crab plover of ibisbill...
I don't know how many more such discrepancies and that too when you pay a grand sum of Rs. 1800/-

It is AWESOME!
This is the best eGuide book of Indian Birds undoubtedly. Everything is so good. But the app would be much better if you added the callings of the birds. It's a request to you, please add sound to this app for the upcoming version. Please!
Not much use unless up already know the bird
This is a very frustrating application. Unless you know the bird or its taxonomic category you observe and then have to scroll painstakingly through to find it - by which time of course it has long departed. This should allow filtering by size, location, colour and habitat - which is common to almost all other apps I have come across for birds. Pretty useless as it stands unless you just want to look at bird pictures.

Does the job
Serves us with just the right information needed. The app could have used technology in a much better way so that it could provide some dynamism but what it does is it plainly shows the content of the book in the app.
The list feature is good though. The app lacks very important Index plate of the Inskipp book which helps users to identify the category of the bird by looking into the pictured index plate.
A feature where birds can be searched and filtered by shape, size of bird, prominent colours, distribution using GPS location would be a great value addition which justifies the purpose of Digitalising field guide book!

Not as useful as the book. Not worth the price!
Hi I am really disappointed in your "APP". It's merely the scanned book..and the book is much easier to use....as you can compare birds that are similar on a page and get to the right bird... In the App you can only search by name...but how do you get the name?
The illustrations are also second rate....the color is bad and detail lost...in this digital version you could have added easily available photos to augment the consistent problems with your plates.
I have been spoiled by ibird pro...and it's amazing search features and the quality of its illustrations... i.e. Ibird with BAM Its easily worth $29. Your app is a real burn for almost $29.
I hope your considering upgrading it soon and the upgrades will be free....But you didn't ask buyers to register...
I would have been so much better off bringing my paperback copy of the book with me to India...

Bad value
No good compared to the Australian app. There are no calls and no ability to filter areas. Not good value given this
Poor search
Really poor search facility. I wish I stuck with my book. This app has the same functionality as a good book.
Not there yet
The app has, as far as I know, a lot of info regarding birds in the area.
Where it is lacking, however, is a “Smart Search” feature (like the South African eBirds Guide) as well as location-based search. With the large number of birds, it is always helpful to narrow down the search possibilities when trying to identify different species.
I’m looking forward to an update - soon - on making very good use of the data it already holds.
Holding thumbs!

Good Start
It is the entire book "Birds of the Indian Subcontinent" by Richard Grimmett, which is the best field guide I've used in India (minus all the stuff at the front). It has some advantages over the book edition, obviously it is easy to carry! It also allows better viewing of both the maps and the illustrations (on the iPad it looks incredible, though I won't carry my iPad into the field). And allows for quick searching.
Yet it seems to be a little glitchy and could use a little polishing. It seems to be missing either maps or illustrations for a few species (some are possible vagrants, others are just plain missing like the Indian peafowl) I would also love to see some work put in on the sounds of birds.
Comparison with similar birds is possible, but cumbersome. You have to know which birds are similar, and you can only view two at a time.
I will look forward to an update of this guide.

A good start
Looking forward to taking this app to India. I have the heavy book already which I'll leave behind. It needs some navigation issues sorted out with the back button which should be taking you to previous page instead of back to the search window. Also it would be useful to be able to browse more easily. I look forward to seeing the refinements. Will add more stars as it gets even better.
