What's New in Elytra

2026.9.2

September 16, 2026

New • The Folders and Bloccs widgets come in a new tall, extra large size. Requires iOS 27. Improvements • YouTube videos now play at the size of the window they are in, up to 1080p, and adjust quality as your connection changes. • A YouTube video that will not play now falls back to YouTube's own player instead of a black box. • The Bloccs widget grid now fits every size. Fixes • Fixed playback for some YouTube videos. • Fixed refresh doing nothing after the first sync, until you restarted the app. • Fixed Re-Sync leaving the app empty. • Fixed Reset leaving the app empty. • Fixed Refresh All removing your articles after it had already failed. • Fixed articles being blank after you add a new feed. • Fixed an article keeping its old text after it was downloaded again. • Fixed audio and video players stacking up on an article after each refresh. • Fixed two folders with the same name replacing each other. • Fixed a smart folder that fails to save discarding your other unsaved changes. • Fixed renaming a folder that Elytra could not find.

Don’t waste your time

Still a buggy mess after being on the App Store for years. Wasted my money on the lifetime premium and regret it deeply. Wouldn’t even sync with my iPhone or iPad.

Elytra is a Broken App Charging Premium Prices for No Good Reason

Save yourself $55 and get an RSS feed reader that actually works. I recommend NetNewsWire which is free or News Explorer which is a modest $5. Both Sync across your iCloud seamlessly. Elytra is a broken app which cannot handle its own basic intended functionality. I will add an RSS feed, refresh to Sync, and then the RSS feed will disappear. Articles won’t download correctly it only downloads the title, author, and thumbnail. That’s if anything downloads at all. Syncing across iPad and iPhone simply does not work, period. I emailed the developer and they were not helpful. I regret buying the Lifetime, it is simply wrong to charge $55 for an app like this that does not work. I would give this 0 stars if I could. Fellow RSS feed lovers, I hope my bad experience is not in vain and it encourages you to stay far, far away from Elytra. -PKG
