On Screen Pop Ups

The app has way too many on screen pop up tips and alert boxes. Many of which either repeat even after you have closed them or you are unable to close them at all. Try writing a narrative for a patient in a window that only shows 1 line because the glaring yellow pop up will not close. Maybe the app isn’t designed properly for an iPhone.

Besides these issues the app is incredibly difficult to use for both skills and patient contacts. Better off using an excel spreadsheet or paper. I was told by other students that it worked great initially but as it has evolved it’s only gotten worse.
Good luck! YMMV

Response from developer

Oh my, it’s a real bummer to hear from you like this. Before I address your technical concerns, it seems that a friendly reminder is necessary. App reviews are not a forum for support. All messages are reviewed by Apple before they’re published, which makes them a lot slower than a normal support channel. App reviews are for people who don’t get the help they’re seeking. I think you’ll be pleased to know that we’re available via the Help screen in the app, email, phone, or even Zoom—for free. EMCE has a small team and we take pride in our work and our ability to respond to requests quickly (within 1 business day). We hope that this will encourage our users to treat us with the same respect as any peer, preceptor, or patient. We’ve found that the most professional folks are able to ask for help when they need it, and provide constructive criticism instead of lax opinions. Regarding the narrative editor: tap anywhere in the patient summary box at the top of the screen. See how it collapsed into one line and now you’ve got more room to type? I hope that helps in the short term. EMCE was designed to support mobile devices first for most cases. Narratives, by their very nature, are not. Long form text is always easier to manipulate on a larger screen with a hardware keyboard. Since EMCE is also available for macOS and on the web, we know of many students that use their phone for everything but their narratives. Still, we agree there may be room for improvement. The “glaring yellow popup” isn’t a popup at all. It’s a warning notice to remind students not to enter a patient’s personal identifying information into their narrative text. We call this out explicitly because such information is protected by law. If you start typing a narrative and it consumes more than the available space on screen, any notices scroll out of view so they’re not in your way. The text editor toolbar remains, and our next release will improve this so it consumes less space on mobile devices. Yes, we do provide some on-screen help within the app. People learn in lots of different ways and not everyone receives the same training. The purple “pro tips” are intentionally present for first-time users who just want to get started immediately, without having to read a manual. Most of these can be hidden permanently by tapping the 👁️-with-a-slash button on them. Some moderately important notices can only be hidden temporarily. If there’s a particular notice (or more than one) that you find bothersome, let us know the specifics, and we’ll take a closer look. We would also welcome more specific details about what you find “incredibly difficult” about entering skills and patient contacts within EMCE, and what you think would make it better…just not here…an email to requests@emce.help would be great. 😅 Cheers!

Great customer support

We started using EMCE last year. Excellent for clinical and skills tracking. Really like the new updates. They answered every question I had instantly. Highly recommend!

customer support

Honestly never had customers support so helpful and fast! Literally got a call within 10 minutes of sending a message to them. Solved my problem quickly and with kindness.

First- do a Zoom with the developer

First - instructors must do a Zoom with the developer to learn the app and be able to teach students how to use it. Mike is a nice guy and will walk you through how to use the App. It is still the most convoluted app ever written. However Mike is committed to taking feedback and making it more user friendly. I foolishly started using it for an AEMT Class I am teaching without doing training. My students hated it and I hated it. Signing off simple skills takes multiple steps from fields that don’t make any sense to me. However, after training with Mike I am starting to learn my way around. As all of the portfolio trackers are bad for AEMTs, this one is an option that I am reluctantly learning. It does have a lot of depth and functionality once you know where to look.

Easy to use and super responsive to needs

I reviewed this when we started using the app and the EMCE program about 2 years ago and things just get stronger and more flexible to program resources while helping meet program minimum competencies. All I can say is that those one-star reviewers likely haven't had to use other programs or they haven't tried to work with the tech support. The new AI generated scenarios and learning tools are a great addition. One of my favorite features is the sim session, which I use during summative sim sessions that are recorded. I can go back to the recordings and make specific comments, etc. In the field if a preceptor wants to use paper, the student can attach it and I can use that to complete the evals, but it's even easier when the preceptor fills the eval in directly and makes comments I can read on my mobile device. I always feel like I know what's going on with the student in terms of both patient/skills and preceptor evaluations. Load times were an issue for a bit and then one meeting with tech support and voila! Problem solved.

Horrible app

Do not use. Horrible app.

Response from developer

Hi there, EMCE is supported by a small team of real humans. We would like to fix the issues you’re seeing. Please reach out and let us know what you’re experiencing.

The most difficult part of paramedic school

This app is a nightmare. Anytime I need it to work it’s slower than dial up internet. Half the time this app doesn’t work during our class and lab hours and items have to be entered in later which defeats the whole purpose of the app. I’m sitting in field time right now attempting to put in information and I’m typing a word a minute because it’s moving so slow, and it’s been like this for a day or two now. God bless if you’re trying to use it when you truly need it because like the McDonalds ice cream machine it’s probably broke.

Response from developer

Hello D, We are sorry for the trouble, and believe you will see a significant improvement with our latest release, version 4.1.3. We absolutely do not want your experience with EMCE to be any level of painful, and would very much appreciate the opportunity to investigate specific issues you encounter in the future. (Unfortunately, given its limited capabilities, the app review system is not the place to get and receive help.) A member of our support team has already reached out to you. As always, we are available via email at requests@emce.help and via the Help screen in the app. We respond promptly and can often resolve significant/unforeseen issues quickly.

Another failure

Dashboard stuck with a weird loading screen animation that persists through login/logout and app uninstall/reinstall... if only they released stable software and patches.

Response from developer

Hello again, We strive to ensure each release is free of bugs like this and apologize you’ve run into issues in consecutive patches. While we can certainly understand your frustration when EMCE doesn’t work as intended, we respond to all messages sent in-app and to requests@emce.help and invite you to reach out there so we can help. We have received a few other reports of this issue and addressed it with a patch. We’ll always respond quickly to address issues and ask that you consider that when leaving a review. In the meantime, EMCE is available on the web if you have trouble with the mobile app.

Paramedic Internship Documentation

Our school uses EMCE for Paramedic documentation, and it has proven to be far superior to any other product we’ve tried. The platform is intuitive, reliable, and tailored to meet the needs of both students and educators.

What truly sets EMCE apart is their outstanding customer service. Any questions or issues we’ve encountered have been addressed quickly and efficiently, with genuine care and attention to detail. It’s clear their team is invested in ensuring their clients succeed.

We highly recommend EMCE to any program seeking a dependable, student-friendly documentation system supported by an exceptional service team.

Terrible

You know they know they're failures and don't care when they have "trouble logging in?" links all over the app.

Response from developer

We are sorry if you've had trouble with EMCE, and understand how frustrating it can be when you are unable to sign in to a system that your school has required you to use. However, your assessment that we "don't care" is inaccurate. You can reach out to EMCE support at any time and receive a response from a real person. EMCE support is available on our website and in-app, and is a more appropriate forum to address issues than App Store reviews. Please contact us so that we're able to help you and prevent future problems for other students.

Open to dialogue

Happy to see that they’re open to improving the product

Response from developer

Hi there, I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had a good experience with EMCE. We care very deeply about our product—much more than you might expect, and we would be happy to help you further. However, the app review system is not the appropriate forum to ask for help, as Apple limits the amount of information we can exchange here. You may reach us through multiple channels including email at requests@emce.help, where we generally respond within 24 hours. Best, -Ben

Amazing software!

Great program, easy to use. Better than all the rest!

EMCE for medic school

Ive used multiple charting systems for school, this one is by far the best. Its the fastest and simplest. If anyone uses imagetrend charting, its very similar. Gone are the days when charting a single intervention in FISDAP took 10 minutes.

Intuitive program and excellent customer support

I love the aesthetics and ease of use. From the student end, the data entry is pretty intuitive. The only issue we have had is training faculty and preceptors to use the evaluation tools and also how to verify versus evaluate. A busy ED shift will result in students taking notes and doing data entry later but then the preceptor can get behind on evaluations. I didn’t think I would use the check in/out tool but it turns out that one is one of my favorites so I can see who has shown up to their shift in real time and intervene immediately if necessary.
Just started using the sim session tool and I LOVE it. Drag and drop skills makes it much easier on faculty running the sim. We record some simulations so I can go back and evaluate also.
Reports are super helpful, although I am still getting used to the tally and what will populate which column. I want all skills (successful and unsuccessful) to show up somewhere but I’m not sure if they do unless they meet a very prescribed evaluation pattern for assessment, treatment and management. If we do rapid cycle deliberate practice using a one patient/ four skills practice session, will the student get credit for the patient or the skills or both if it is entered as a sim pt/solo skill?
Overall, very happy with this product and the amazing customer support.

Slow

Incredibly slow loading times and half the time doesn’t work

Can’t open app

I know they are working hard to fix this issue but it’s getting in the way of class. Kinda if a hard work around.

Response from developer

First, the additional issue you are likely referring to was resolved in version 3.1.7. Please update immediately if you are still experiencing it. We apologize for the brief inconvenience. Please understand, and I cannot stress this enough, App Reviews are not a forum for technical support. Apple delays publication of all reviews and replies by at least 24 hours, as they pass through a content review process. It is much faster and more reliable for you to communicate with us directly. We are available through multiple channels including via email at requests@emce.help. No apps are perfect all the time. This particular issue only affected those still running iOS 16. Upgrading to iOS 17 was one workaround. When there are occasional unplanned issues with our native apps, we provide a web app at https://emce.app, which works in mobile browsers and is practically identical to our native apps. We also offer a native macOS app. So unless you’ve reached out for support and haven’t received any at all, there’s no reason to take us to task via social media, nor are we a valid excuse for not being able to participate in class.

App won’t even open

Can’t even open the app. Removed and downloaded again. Same issue

Response from developer

Hi there! 👋 The issue you experienced with version 3.1.5 of the app was fixed today (10/6/2023) in version 3.1.6. Please ensure that you have refreshed the App Store and update to the latest version. If this works for you, we would appreciate your consideration for a more appropriate rating. One star is for apps that provide folks with zero help and support. That’s not EMCE. We’re here to help via multiple channels. Next time you have an issue, we humbly invite you to e-mail us at requests@emce.help before 😡@☁️. Thanks! 🙏

Horrible

Absolute worst app there is. I am not sure why Paramedic Programs would ever use this for tracking of students.

Response from developer

Hi Aaron, I’m sorry to hear that you haven’t had a good experience with EMCE. We care very deeply about our product—much more than you might expect, and we would be happy to help you with whatever issue you might be having. However, the app review system is not the appropriate forum to ask for help—and the reason we’re just responding now. You may reach us through multiple channels including email at requests@emce.help, where we generally respond within 24 hours. Best, -Ben
