An épigraphe is the short quotation set at the beginning of a book. ■ An app for not opening This app really lives in its widgets and its notifications. The screens are only the back room. A notification here is not an invitation to open the app. It is the thing itself, finished where you read it. ■ Today's card The day decides the card. On the same day, the widget, the notification and the app all show the same one. The order is not random. Cards are drawn so that the collection turns over as a whole, which keeps the same few lines from crowding out the rest. Something you had forgotten comes back once you have forgotten it. Adding or removing cards reshuffles the order. ■ Widgets Medium and large Home Screen widgets hold a long quotation at a size you can actually read. A line takes up residence somewhere you look many times a day. Each widget can be set to all cards, favorites only, or a single deck. Lock Screen widgets are supported too, but the space is narrow, so long quotations are cut short there. ■ Notifications Today's card arrives at the hour you choose: the name and source in the title, the words themselves in the body. Nothing to open. Turn on drift and it arrives at a slightly different time each day. ■ Gathering words ・Type them in ・Import a text file in one go ・Send them from another app with the share button — select a passage in Safari and it comes straight across If the last line reads like "— Name, Source", the name and the source are filed on their own. Sort into decks, mark favorites, search. The same passage will not be saved twice. ■ Passing them on A card can be shared as text or as a single image, and the image can be saved to Photos. ■ My Reminders Apart from the quotations, you can have a short line of your own arrive at a set time — not someone else's words, but yours to yourself. ■ What comes with it Thirty-two cards under the name Florilège, an old word for an anthology, literally a gathering of flowers. Voices from several centuries and several languages, each left in its own. You can decline them on the first screen, or delete them later. ■ Your words never leave your device This app does not connect to anything. There is not a single line of networking code in it. No account, no advertising, no tracking. What you save is not sent to a server, and no one else can read it. You can export whenever you like: everything as JSON, or one deck, or only your favorites. Read it back and the favorites and dates return with it. ■ On the typeface The quotations are set in JeanLuc, by kind permission of its makers.
