About

EQ balances any chemical equation as you type and shows you why the answer is right, step by step. Free to download, with no account needed. Built for middle school, high school and college chemistry: balancing, ionic equations, half-reactions, oxidation states and stoichiometry in one place. BALANCE • Balances live as you type, with proper subscripts and superscripts and reaction conditions shown above the arrow • Balancing animation: coefficients are revealed one at a time, an atom scale tips and then levels out, and each element's atom count turns from red to green, so conservation clicks at a glance • Ions and charges (Fe3+, SO42-, SO4^2-, Fe³⁺) and electrons (e⁻) • Hydrates (CuSO4·5H2O), complexes (K4[Fe(CN)6]), state symbols (aq) (s) (g), and ↑ ↓ • Acidic or basic medium: automatically adds H⁺, OH⁻ and H₂O, so electrode half-reactions balance in one tap • Exact algorithm based on fraction-based Gaussian elimination, so even complex redox equations with a dozen or more species balance correctly; tells you when more than one balanced form exists • Typos get a specific explanation and fix, for example suggesting "HCl" when you type "Hcl" UNDERSTAND EVERY STEP • Atom conservation: checks each element and the total charge on both sides • The solution path: assign unknown coefficients → write conservation equations → reduce to row echelon form → find the smallest whole-number solution • Oxidation states and redox: labels the oxidation state of every element and identifies the oxidizing agent, reducing agent, oxidation product, reduction product and number of electrons transferred • Classifies reaction types: synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacement, neutralization, combustion, ionic reactions and more STOICHIOMETRY • Enter the mass, amount (mol) or gas volume at STP of any substance and get every other substance in the reaction • Enter several reactants at once and it finds the limiting reagent and how much excess is left over • Switch atomic masses between rounded textbook values (Cl 35.5, Cu 64) and precise values MORE TOOLS • Molar mass calculator: molar mass, mass percent of each element, and conversions between mass, moles, particle count and gas volume • Periodic table: electronegativity, common oxidation states, electron configuration and atomic structure diagrams; insert any element into your equation with one tap • Reaction library: 116 core reactions from middle and high school chemistry, organized by chapter, each with its balanced form and analysis • History and favorites: every balanced equation is saved automatically; star the ones you use often • Copy results as text, LaTeX (mhchem) or an image for homework, notes and slides • Light and dark mode Note: the app's interface is currently in Simplified Chinese. Chemical formulas, equations and numbers are universal, so you can type and balance equations the same way in any language.
