Love the idea
But it doesn’t work. I ran into a million problems like needing to reinstall the app after getting rid of all my previous contacts sources and needing to sign up on the web because the app has no affordance for that. And empty contact list initialization failing. I finally gave up after repeatedly ending up at “cipher text cannot be decrypted using that key”.

Sadly, just doesn't work
I went through the setup, but then the app just gives an error when connecting. I'll look elsewhere for a solution.

This seems like an awesome service but just keep getting an error when trying to set it up.
Hasn’t been updated in nearly 3 years
Please add some basic features something like automatic syncing via shortcuts should be a bare minimum for this app.

It’s a really great idea and I wish it worked well with iphone. Unfortunately, in my case, since synching with iphone I have contacts disappearing and some events on my iphone calendar broke the sync with my desktop app. E.g. a contact I used just yesterday disappeared and there’s no trace of a change in the app changes log. Reinstalling and starting fresh new contact lists doesn’t solve all the problems. I reported the problem but it’s very difficult to characterize when these things happen so difficult to reproduce. It’s 5++ stars for what they’re trying to do, but it least in my experience it’s not there yet.

Only one issue so far, otherwise it works
The setup is bit odd, but that is mostly because of Apple’s restrictions and other nonsense. Once setup, it works but I hav one issue: it doesn’t auto sync for some reason.
Good on android, disaster on iOS
The app works well on Android, but tried on my Wife’s iPhone and it is terrible. Constantly crashing, does not work well with calendar or contacts. It is completely useless.
Love the Concept, Just Couldn’t Get It To Work
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for to sync my contacts and reminders privately without having to have to use iCloud and feed Apple all of my personal data. I just couldn’t get it to work after many hours of trial and error to successfully sync. Perhaps some updates and it will work flawlessly and I will certainly come back to try again and very willing to pay to have the service work swimmingly to sync E2E between my devices. Love the concept!

It doesn’t work. At first I had some error messages and then uninstalled it now a few days later I thought I’ll try again and now it doesn’t get passed the login screen. I’ve notice the app hasn’t been updated in two years which explains the problem possibly. Love this to work though. Anyone know of any alternatives? 1 star for my disappointment but another star because I’d love this to work. :)

Wonderful tool
Works as expected. I’m looking to move away from self hosting and tools like this make it easy. I don’t want service providers to have access to my data at any point so EteSync is a great solution.
Priced well and works well. Hopefully they eventually figure out automatic background syncing but I’m happy with manual in the meantime.

Doesn’t just work
I so, so, wanted this to work. The idea is great. But, I have been troubleshooting issues with setting it up on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac for the past two days. I got close, alas I am at the limit of my willingness to tinker with it any further. On my Mac I got the calendar and reminders working, but contacts stopped working. I finally got all three working on my iPhone. I’m still having issues with Contacts on my iPad.
I will check back in with this service in a year or two to see if most of the quirkiness has been worked out. When it has, I will sign up and try to get everyone I know to sign up.
Hats off to you for tackling this project. I think this is a big and important idea. I wish you all the best of luck! I really think this could be a huge success! Every main stream news outlet could be talking about, and recommending, this in a few years!

Stops working after a few days
It’s only slightly difficult to get set up. But once you get it set up everything works fine for a few days. Then you get a bunch of errors a few days later. The creator is horrible at replying to support requests he will take up to a month to reply. This is a scam to not say the app is in beta and I cannot recommend this. I can deal with the limitations but the app doesn’t work at all. I hope the guy fixes these issues before my year subscription is up. Etesync 2.0 has come out and the release notes say nothing about fixing this issue.

Great overall but iOS app needs auto-sync
I really like EteSync and their aim of providing an innovative and secure contacts and calendar service. I’d be happy to go all-in with them were it not for need to manually sync on iOS. I could even live with this for contacts but out-of-date calendars are a real workflow problem for me.
Hope to see this implemented soon.
