This app is beautifully designed and a joy to use - it’s my go to light meter app now after trying nearly every other app.

Love how simple yet effective this app is. The haptics are very well done.

The charm of this small, adorable, seemingly purposeless app lies precisely in its beautiful uselessness.
Think about yourself when you’re taking a photo. Is your shot going to end up as a Magnum Photo of the Year? Will it rack up tens of thousands of likes on Instagram? Of course not.
So why do you take photos?
Because you enjoy the act itself - touching the camera, adjusting the aperture, turning a dial - participating in a process where the outcome almost doesn’t matter.
Some people fully immerse themselves in this experience through analog cameras; others spend hours processing RAW files on their phones. To outsiders, it might seem like a pointless use of time - but to you, it means something.
You are the result of that process.
Now, let’s talk about EV13.
This app isn’t really for taking photos. Maybe it’ll help someone who needs a light meter. Maybe it won’t.
But what it does do is bring together all the simple, tactile, intuitive pleasures of operating a camera - and put them in one place.
The creator might not even care if the app is “useful.”
Maybe they just wanted to share the quiet joy that lives inside those gestures - the feeling of turning a little lever, clicking through f-stops, remembering what it felt like to hold a film camera in the wind, somewhere far from your to-do list.
For me, just spinning those dials helps me forget the noise of a complicated day.

If you’re a so-called professional getting chewed out by a furious bride over missed wedding photos, then go ahead and delete this app.
But if your photography isn’t about praise, or profit, or even purpose -
If it’s about honoring the beauty of meaninglessness itself -
Then EV13 might be exactly for you.

Not good. Confused designer.
The designer of the app does not understand the meaning of EV (Exposure Value) which is a relative value and should change depending on exposure parameters, and very clearly confuses it with LV (Light Value) which is an absolute value of luminance of the subject. EV is equal to LV at 100 ISO only. This error is particularly funny considering the app’s name “EV13”.
Little bit more of basic photometry knowledge is needed before making an app.
