About
EXIF.ER is a tool that renames your photos and videos using accurate capture dates from EXIF and video metadata, keeping files sortable across devices.
It pulls the original creation date and time from each file's metadata and applies one of multiple filename formats, from compact ISO standards to region-specific layouts. An optional tag like a trip name can be added to the filename for easier searching later. The app handles images and videos from both the Files app and Photo Library, supporting multiple formats including Apple ProRAW and all iPhone video types.
Processing stays completely on-device with no uploads or servers involved. Files are renamed losslessly — only the filename changes, never the image or video data itself. In folder mode, files can be renamed in place or moved into a new subfolder named after the tag. You can also choose a custom output folder. Progress shows exactly how many files were processed or skipped, with clear explanations for any that couldn't be renamed, like missing metadata.
The workflow is straightforward: select media or a folder, pick a filename pattern, add a tag if desired, and start renaming. Forgot something? You can add more files to your selection without starting over. Frequently used tags can be bookmarked for quick reuse. A history view tracks recent sessions with success and failure counts and per-file error details.
Making EXIF.ER has been a joy, and it's a tool I use personally — I hope you'll find it as useful as I do.
