Buggy and un updated app.
If you are running newer devices like iPhone 14 or a M power iPad, forget about it. Will crash.
They clearly don’t care about updating the app, it is still framed for the old style iPad screens, black bars on either side of the frame.
Obvious they care very little about the customer and put as minimal effort into the app to get it over the line…

Does the job
I prepared for FOI with this app. I got 96 at the test, but about 3/4 of the questions were to some degree different from the app’s database. However, I like the explanation and discussion portion of the study as well as different levels of practice. I have been using Dauntless test prep software for all my knowledge tests because I like to understand what’s behind the correct answer. Also I find making a phone call to get Shepherds Air app way too … unnecessary

Don’t buy!! Waste of money!
I just left the CFI written exam and I passed with a 71 however I haven’t see probably 75% of the questions on the exam. I started using dauntless for my private and it was good then but it’s progressively gotten worse with each rating. I gave myself 2 weeks to prep for this exam and I’ve gone through probably over 5,000 practice questions. I sat down today and take the actual exam and I’ve never felt more helpless and underprepared. Save your money and go with a different test prep program.

FOI Written 96%
I used Dauntless to study for Fundamentals of Instruction. Now I’m preparing for Ground Instructor Advanced. Then I will do Flight Instructor Airplane after that. The app allows you to select which test you want to study for, and what method of study based on how well you know the material. I also bought the optional voice option so I could listen to questions and answers in the car. I recommend Dauntless apps for anyone preparing for an FAA written test.

Close Enough!
I used this to study for FOI. I got a 90%. I got a good amount of questions I hadn’t seen before on the actual exam. But the questions on this app were close enough. I’m studying for FIA now.
Shepherd Air has a better question bank. But this app has multiple tests (like FOI + FIA), and does a good job with the explanation to every question. I also like the question stack system, which helps you focus on weak areas. Great app overall!

Great test prep app
I love the current and up to date question database and the fact that you can continuously update so you have all current questions is amazing. This app is invaluable!
Not so great...
Use Sheppard Air. I have used both and there is no comparison. Sheppard gets my students ready much faster and results in much higher test scores. Dauntless last staff is callous and difficult to access. They don't have a phone number to reach them with, and are generally slow to respond with an email. The opposite is true with Sheppard.

Great way to study
I have tried to use other applications to help me study for various FAA tests but they would have outdated questions or it would only be a final test and not help with the preparation of the test. I believe that the work that was put into this app but all the other apps that they have made is extremely well thought out and done in a fashion that makes it easy for the user to customize what they need to study for and what they are having trouble remember for the test. They also have amazing customer support for any questions that you have or any problems you have with the app. I would recommend this app to anyone who wants to study for an FAA test and be able to study anywhere at anytime.

Passed my FIG flight instructor glider exam with a 94%! Pleased to say that this study material is excellent! The questions on my real test were spot on with the study material! Definitely 10/10 would recommend if you are looking to take the FIG exam!
Terrible Customer Service
I reached out to Dauntless to get some advice on the AGI test I would be taking in a few days after my FIA. My FIA test results were passing, but not ideal. Instead of giving me advice they belittled me and said I didn’t study enough and I’m pouty about my score. Not very customer service friendly. Also the questions on simulated tests were repeated over and over. Look else where.

Good course, UX not so much
I’ve been using the app for a couple of months now. I am pleased with the course, and the explanations are well written and the illustrations aare exceptionally informative. I particularly appreciate the author's commentary frequently provided!
But the problem is that the UI is only adequate. I really appreciate the ability to adjust the font size on the questions but why doesn't the explanation pages offer the same capability, there is a lot more to read and it is way too small. Worse, it is not responsive, when you do zoom in, it doesn't reflow so you are constantly panning left to right and back. That is very distracting making it very difficult to learn.
Also, there should be a score shown as you progress through the questions.
Finally, I would ask that the session be saved automatically and offered to resume when returning. Ideally saved, not just on the device but, the session saved in the cloud so that the switch from phone to tablet, or vice-versa, is seamless.

Great value and proven performance
I took the FOI first time and failed, missed it by 2 questions - it was really frustrating as it’s not an easy topic because the subject matter is not similar to many other types of aviation knowledge- I got the Dauntless CFI app and studied for a week until I practice tested > 85% consistently- the explanations were thorough and richly referenced but also easy to comprehend and I found the info easy to correlate after only a few hours - the learning stuck pretty well, I walked in confidently and I scored a 90% on the retest in 25 minutes

Don't pay for audio
Look as a reference it's not bad. Allows you to go though questions and understand where you went wrong by showing to text after, on the topic. The audio isn't worth the extra you pay, It should be included. Especially at the price it is and the extra content you get that isn't overly useful. I only needed it for instructor exam. Other stuff is a small bonus but not that much. Would get a four or five but have to manually save each time I use it so I don't get repeated questions, and paid for audio that I don't think is worth it so it gets a 3

Awesome software, great value
Rapidly knocked many years of rust off. Very intuitive, and easy to use. Allows study from my phone whenever I get a few minutes. Lessons save so you can pick right back up from where you left off.
Owned it for ten years
This is a great app, I used it for Ground Instructor ten years ago then knocked out Glider and just two weeks ago, airplane CFI.
It’s updated regularly and when I sent questions and comments to the staff, I received a courteous response.

Harsh customer service
Great app, don’t expect friendly customer support though, I found an error on a question and was sent a response by Martin THE CFI who did not take time to look into it, instead just told me to quit crying and waisting his time. Very sad, a great app, pour customer support

Great Study Material
This is the second Dauntless Software app I have purchased and it is fantastic. I passed my previous exam with flying colors and knew I had to continue with what works, and that is this app. Highly reccommend for anyone looking to ace the exams!!!
Not impressed
Many simple questions repeated, and yet entire subject areas were missing from the material. Not sufficient as a sole source of preparation, and for the price it should be.
