Downloaded app, clicked on icon, an image of camera appears on screen and vanishes in less than a second.

Seems to work pretty well! The smile shutter trigger seems to work better than the wink shutter trigger. But It gives you adequate warning as to when it's going to take the picture. Great for selfies!
