Turn the Eos receiver you already own into a local RTK base station. A local base is the best RTK performance you can achieve. The shorter the baseline, the faster you fix, the longer you hold it, and the better your accuracy holds up exactly where RTK usually falls apart — under canopy, beside buildings, in valleys, and at the edge of network coverage. If you have an Eos Skadi 200, 300 or Gold, you already have the hardware. WHY A LOCAL BASE Network RTK is convenient, but the longer the baseline to the reference station, the worse your rover performs. Atmospheric errors stop cancelling, initialization slows, and fixes drop and take longer to recover. In tough GNSS environments that is the difference between working and waiting. A base station a few hundred feet away removes most of that. Baseline errors shrink toward zero, ambiguity resolution gets faster and more reliable, and a marginal Float solution becomes a consistent Fixed one. Networks also upgrade slowly, because it means touching every station. Reference stations are often limited in the constellations and frequencies they support, and your rover can only use what the reference sends. Your own base is as modern as the receiver in your hand. And one base serves your whole crew, re-broadcasting corrections to every rover on site from a single network connection instead of a subscription per rover. You do not have to choose. Set your base position by network RTK, then work off your own local base — network-referenced coordinates, local-base performance.
