FAULTCAM: Faulty CCD Camera

■ Old digital-camera quality, with a sensor that has gone wrong FAULTCAM is a camera and photo editor that puts the colour and signal defects of a faulty sensor on top of the narrow tones and coarse detail of an old digital camera. It is not a filter that lays one colour over everything. White clips to white, midtones fall towards magenta, dark midtones sink into green. Thin vertical lines run through the frame and highlights smear downward. Inside a single photo, each brightness breaks its own way. ■ Six units - M-01 MAGENTA blown white, pink midtones, thin vertical lines - G-02 GREEN dull yellow-green with violet bands, column steps in the shadows - C-03 CYAN grey-blue with the red gone, thin red-brown lines - A-04 AMBER amber and black split apart, blue-green columns - V-05 VIOLET indigo and pale violet, one wide green band - X-06 CHANNEL some colour survives, channels shift in places Two units from the same lineage still differ: bands sit elsewhere, columns come out another way. ■ You decide how far it breaks The fault dial runs from 0 to 100. At 0 the old digital-camera base quality is still there; at 100 the picture is fully broken. Colour failure, signal defects and age move separately. ■ Compare units on the same frame Open the case and try all six units on the photo in front of you. Inside a lineage you can look for another unit whose bands and columns land differently, then name and keep the one you like. ■ Change your mind afterwards Shoot with it, or bring in a photo you already have. History keeps the original and the settings, so you can go back, pick a different unit or fault level and build the photo again. A processed image is never processed twice. Press and hold to see the original while you decide. ■ Export JPEG (sRGB) at 2048px or 4096px on the long edge. No watermark. Location data is stripped from exported images. Your original file is never overwritten. ■ Photos are processed on your device Image processing and history stay on the device; your photos are not sent to our servers. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics SDK. (Purchases, restores and fetching iCloud photos may need Apple's network.) ■ Free and Pro Free: M-01 and C-03, capture and import, the fault dial, compare, history, and the same export quality. There is no subscription. ■ About the units All six units are fictional cameras made for this app. They are not analyses or reproductions of any real camera, and the app does not diagnose a physical sensor fault in a specific model.
