Disappointing the more you use it

I really enjoyed the app at first. I loved scanning various wildlife and plants. I even bought the subscription specifically for a vacation where we were going on sight seeing tours where we would see rare animals and plants led by wildlife management. It misidentifies rare animals as common animals. Now I’m questioning a lot of the identifications which led me to cancel the subscription. I did mark it as being incorrect but it does not get corrected. I just don’t know that the responses are accurate and plan to look for another option to store my collection of wildlife.

Response from developer

Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we’re sorry you had a frustrating experience, especially on a trip you bought the subscription for. We’re committed to accurate identification and try to be transparent about how confident we are. Rare species are the hardest to get right since there are far fewer photos and records of them to learn from, and they often look very similar to common relatives. The same animal can also go by different names. That’s why each result shows a confidence score, possible lookalikes, and other common names, and why we include a guide on which shots to take. Another factor is that Fauna currently identifies at the species level, because subspecies can be difficult to tell apart from a photo alone. That means a rare local subspecies appears under the name and status of its species as a whole, not under its own local name. We’re exploring how to show subspecies and flag rare local populations, and we’re being careful to do it only where it can be done reliably. We’re constantly updating the app and looking for ways to improve it. Right now, reporting an identification as incorrect sends it to us for analysis but doesn’t change your sighting on its own. While you can switch the identification to one of the suggested matches, we don’t yet have a way for an expert to manually review reports and provide a verified correction. One option we’re considering is to let you change a sighting to your own correction. We’re still working out how to do both well and would love your input. If you’re willing, we’d like to look into this further. Please email us at support@faunatheapp.com and tell us which sightings you reported, along with any context you think is important. That would help us understand what went wrong and how to improve.

love this app

i love this app, it gives a lot of interesting facts about species i didn’t know about, it even tells you the risk level, predators, and more. my only suggestion for fauna is to display the rarity level for a species when you log it, then I don’t have to ask the ai myself. other than that this is a really good app for people who enjoy learning about and collecting different species!!

Very impressive

One of the best use of AI so far, I like the idea and the app is an ease to use, it motivates me to go outside and look for beautiful living things,
Thanks

Immersive experience

I’m impressed by the pleasant UI that makes the experience more immersive. Real life and the app feel intertwined.

AWESOME

I absolutely recommend this!!! It’s so awesome and gets everything right! It also includes so many cool facts about animals!!!

Best wildlife app for all nature enthusiasts

I really enjoy the features that this app has to offer. As a nature lover, I like how I can scan or upload photos from my camera roll and it accurately identifies the species. Fauna is a great addition to my outdoor adventures and beautifully captures all sightings in a journal.

So Cool

The first explore feature is so great for discovering cool animals around the world. Scanning and collecting nature feels like Pokémon.

Finally a nature app that feels good to use

I tried iNaturalist and Seek a bunch of times and honestly the UI just feels so clunky and dated. I like how Fauna is so smooth and easy to use. There’s also something really satisfying about knowing what’s actually around you knowing how to find and interact with those species.
