About
Federal Court Rules puts all five sets of the Federal Rules on your iPhone and iPad, ready to read and search whether or not you have a signal.
A subscription is required to read the rules in the app. The download is free and so are the first 3 days; after that it is $8.99 per year. Everything described below is included in the subscription, and there is nothing else to buy.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
• Federal Rules of Civil Procedure
• Federal Rules of Evidence
• Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure
• Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure
• Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure
537 rules in all, with the complete text of each rule and its amendment history.
WORKS WITHOUT A CONNECTION
The rules are stored on your device the first time you open the app. Courthouse basements, airplanes, rural courtrooms, elevators. The app does not care. There is no spinner and no "you appear to be offline."
BUILT FOR THE WAY RULES ARE READ
Subdivision structure is preserved exactly as promulgated, so (a), (a)(1), and (a)(1)(A) are as clear on a phone as on the page. Rules that cite other rules are linked, including across rule sets. A reference in a civil procedure rule to an evidence rule is one tap away.
SEARCH THAT WORKS OFFLINE
Search every word of every rule across all five sets, instantly, with no connection. Look up a rule by number or find the rules that discuss a term.
MARK UP WHAT MATTERS
Bookmark a rule, highlight a passage, and write a note on it saying why it matters: the argument you made, the judge who read it narrowly, the deadline it interacts with. Your bookmarks, highlights and notes follow you to your other devices through your own iCloud account. There is no account to create and no password to remember, and none of it is ever visible to us.
ON IPHONE AND IPAD
A reading layout on iPhone. On iPad, a two-column layout that keeps the rule list beside the rule you are reading. Text follows your system text-size setting.
ALWAYS CURRENT
The Federal Rules are amended effective December 1 each year. The app checks for amendments and updates itself in the background, so you do not need to buy a new edition.
FROM A LEGAL PUBLISHER
Federal Court Rules is published by Michigan Legal Publishing Ltd., publisher of print editions of the Federal Rules and of the free reference site courtrules.net.
SUBSCRIPTION
A subscription is required to use Federal Court Rules. Free for 3 days, then $8.99 per year. Your subscription renews annually unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends. Cancel any time in your App Store account settings. Cancelling during the free trial costs nothing. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.

What's New in Federal Court Rules
1.0.4
September 11, 2026
Fixes highlighting when your selection includes a rule's heading, such as "Forfeiture" in Rule 5.1(d). The Highlight button did nothing in that case. Highlights you saved on those passages will now appear where you made them. New app icon.
