Its members include funeral directors, embalmers, funeral homes, service companies, crematoria, cemeteries, and professionals in funeral and thanatopraxy services worldwide. FIAT-IFTA exists to support its members through advocacy, education, information, products, programs, and professional services. All activities are guided by a single core objective: to enhance the quality of care provided to bereaved families in every country. The Federation operates on a non-discriminatory, scientific, and socially responsible foundation. FIAT-IFTA is currently the only organization of its kind globally and the sole NGO representing the funeral profession accredited with both the United Nations ECOSOC and UNESCO.
