Improving quickly
Thanks for the recent updates and addressing my feedback. Import recordings and manual transcribe are great additions. You’ve fixed most of the issues I’ve mentioned and added some of my suggestions, thank you.
Definitely one of the most capable recorders I’ve come across. Love that it includes tags, notes and location of our recordings and iCloud sync.
Remaining Issue:
- When playing back imported recordings I notice the audio tends to get cut off at the end (even though the wave shows there is more left to play). (You’re working on this)
Fixed Issues:
✔️Transcripts sometimes get cut off at the end. It doesn’t always transcribe the last few words or sentence.
✔️Imported recordings don’t seem to get transcribed. (New transcribe button solves this)
Amended Requests:
- New: Support for starting a recording from Action button on iPhone 16 and later.
- Apple Watch app complications for quick tap recordings that work without the iPhone app having to be open (appreciate you are working on that)
Completed:
✔️ New: Ability to manually transcribe/re-transcribe any recording — including imported.
✔️Save and display transcripts with the audio.
✔️ Import feature to move recordings into Field from other voice memo apps like JustPressRecord
See a lot potential with this app. Appreciate the steady improvements.

Thanks for the update — and good timing. 1.4.3 is in review now and addresses most of what you mentioned: Transcripts cut off at the end → fixed. The last word or two used to get clipped when you stopped recording mid-sentence; those now make it in. Imported recordings aren't transcribed → there's now a Transcribe button on the recording detail page that runs on-device transcription on any recording, including imports and any live captures that came back empty. Cold-launch transcription gap also fixed, in case you've run into the very first recording after launch coming back blank. For #3, the imported playback cutting off before the waveform ends — that one I'd like to dig into. Could you send a diagnostic report (Settings → About → Send Diagnostics) right after it happens, ideally noting which recording? If you can share the source app the file came from (Voice Memos, JustPressRecord, etc.) that helps too. Action Button support is a good idea and I'll get it on the list. Watch complications for tap-to-record are still in progress. Really appreciate the careful feedback and helping to make this better.
Potential to be amazing

Although iCloud sync isn’t working between my two devices on some apple account.
Apple Watch app requires the iPhone app to be open. This defeats the purpose of making recordings from your wrist. Even if open and the screen dims on the phone the recording won’t initiate from the Watch. Needs to work in the background.
Lastly, transcription only shows while recording on the iPhone but isn’t saved or accessible with the audio recording.
Requests:
- Apple Watch app complications for quick tap recordings that work without the iPhone app having to be open.
- iCloud sync fix so — so it works — consistently and reliably.
- Save and display transcripts with the audio.
- Import feature to move recordings into Field from other voice memo apps like JustPressRecord
See a lot potential with this app. But with present limitations it isn’t usable for my workflow.

Thanks for the detailed review — it really helps. 1.4.1 just shipped (May 18) with two of your asks fixed: transcripts now persist with the recording and are easier to see in the detail view, and there's new diagnostic infrastructure for iCloud sync. If sync still isn't working, try Settings → About → Send Diagnostics after a sync attempt and email me the report — fieldaudioapp@gmail.com. Import from voice memo apps is on deck for 1.4.2, starting this week. Watch background recording will take longer, but it's on the list. Thanks again.
