Field Triangulate User Reviews

I wish I had not wasted $7.99.

I would like an app that does what this one is supposed to do. This one doesn’t do what it is supposed to do. This app is wildly inaccurate. I have been testing in Utah desert with large distinct landforms, similar to monument valley, that should be easy to point at and take a bearing. The accuracy is so far off the app is useless. Also, the layout and procedure is unintuitive and the documentation is poor. When you do figure out how it is supposed to work you also figure out how poorly the layout supports the function. Finally, the developer does not respond to email questions regarding functionality. This app would be a disappointment if it was free. It is a bad joke at $7.99. I think a refund should be provided but the App Store says this app is not eligible for a refund.

Not intuitive

Not easy to use intuitively. I tried to confirm the location of a peak using my location and couldn't see how to do it.

Accurate!

It'd as accurate as the accuracy of the compass bearings

Just doesn’t work

We have tried and tried but the app always puts a coordinates of -1 and will not read the internal campus. I know it’s not as accurate as a real compass but even the built in compass gives a number other than -1.

Practice first

Downloaded it last minute to use for fox hunting with my radio club as my son backed out last minute.
I like it and have since practiced it and do like it as a one person operation. Can save points and historic readings. I recommended it to my radio club.

Useful but problematic

I’ve been seeing a consistent problem where projection lines disappear at carrying zoom levels, most often when close up.

Another issue is when holding the phone sideways to sight down the edge of the phone the keyboard blocks the save button on screen. Additionally, being able to use the volume buttons would work well for locking the direction in.

After setting a projection line the map at times will zoom out to a world view requiring panning and resetting the zoom level.

Finally I’d like to be able to exit from creating a projection like without creating the line on the map. As it is now, tapping off to the side will return to the map but will still set a projection line at 0 degrees. One must then go to the listing of readings and delete it from there.

Response from developer

Hello Nick Thanks for the feedback. I didn't notice it here at first, but I see it now. Thanks for the concise reports. For next release I've fixed the second and fourth. The first is less in my control (the platform controls this) but I can investigate a workaround. The third is the app attempting to zoom to contain all the parts (readings, triangulation) but I'll look into it. Let me know if you'd like to be on the early access list to get a copy before next release. Thanks again for the detailed feedback. support@neukadye.com

Good for radio fox hunting

Attaching iPhone to rotating radio signal locator, this app helps to quickly triangulate on map where the “fox” is hidden. Note to developer the compass hdg should be more visible when setting up the fix. Maybe even using the camera as a target sight.

Useless in Southern Hemisphere ?

Disappointing. There would appear to be no way of changing the default north to South when entering coordinates in southern half of the planet. Emailed and fb messaged and received no reply. Shame because it would otherwise be ideal for my purposes of locating a distant stationary sound in dense forest.

Response from developer

I am sorry I failed to respond before. Your communications came in at a time I could not handle them, and then they slipped. I've added an issue tracker system since then. Have you checked out the new version (a complete rewrite) which should allow you to set south, and it save as the default (as a preference.) I'd appreciate your feedback on if the new application fits your needs.

Very limited usefulness

I thought I'd found an App that could be used in the field to spot-in multiple locations with heading to a feature to triangulate it's location....this is NOT it. Manual entry of coordinates. No map function.

Response from developer

I initially created this as a fully automated map based application, but soon found that one needed a manual compass to get sufficiently accurate readings, so hid certain aspects behind a settings screen. Please check out the new version, since this is a complete rewrite (given what I know today) with options (in settings) for you to enable the things you were missing.
