This release is a clean-up pass over the conversations you had in 1.4.0 and 1.5.0 - the things that turned out to be wrong once people started using them. Voice notes that play everywhere A voice note recorded on Android was being saved in a format that Android itself could play back, but that no desktop browser can decode - so a note that sounded fine when you sent it could be silent for the person who opened it on a computer. Voice notes are now recorded in a standard format on both platforms and play back anywhere. Note: voice notes recorded before this update can't be converted, and stay playable only on Android. Voice notes also stop when they finish, instead of starting over again until you tapped pause. Download and Share, told apart Download used to open the share sheet, which is not what the word promises. Tapping Download on an image now saves it directly to your photos. Sharing is its own button. Documents still go through the share sheet - there is no way to put a PDF into Files without it - so that button now says Share. Delete a message Long-press a message you sent to delete it for everyone in the conversation. It works for every kind of message: text, photos, files, voice notes and call records. The message disappears from the thread, from the inbox and from unread counts on both sides. A useful inbox A photo or voice note sent without a caption used to show as "No recent messages" next to an unread badge. The inbox now describes the attachment. Also in this release - The send button sits centred in the composer rather than pinned low. - Sign-in details are now held in the device's secure keystore. - Real-time message delivery moved onto authorized private channels. - An unexpected error in one screen no longer blanks the whole app.
