?

Looks like app hasn’t been updated in a while, I saw a meteor and thought it would be cool to put it on here but I can’t do the report. It freezes when I try to put in the info.

Doesn’t work

Hi there, trying to report a fireball over South Australia and app has frozen on me 5 times now as I’m trying to submit. I’ve given up now. Please fix! Would be very cool to see all reported meteors. ☄️

Outdated! Don’t bother

I tried to find the Persied meteor shower … nothing! App is pretty useless :(

Uploading issue

Entered a sighting but it’s stuck in ‘Waiting to upload’ state so unsure if it’s the app or if the backend server is no longer running?

FAQ

What does the Fireballs in the Sky app do?

This app allows you to report your sightings of meteors or bright fireballs. You can recreate your observation using augmented reality and intuitive tools, contributing scientifically useful data to the Desert Fireball Network. It helps researchers study meteorites and the early solar system.

What are the key features of the app?

Key features include recreating fireball sightings with augmented reality, pinpointing the start and end altitude and azimuth, building and animating custom fireballs with options for duration, shape, brightness, and fragmentation, adding notes to reports, tracking your own and other users' sightings, and receiving updates on the analysis of your reports.

Is there a cost to use the Fireballs in the Sky app?

No, the Fireballs in the Sky app is completely free to use. It does not have any in-app purchases or advertisements, allowing all users to contribute to scientific research without any financial barriers.

What kind of information can I contribute with my sightings?

You can contribute scientifically useful data by recreating the visual aspects of the fireball you saw, including its duration, shape, brightness, and color. You can also pinpoint its altitude and azimuth. If the fireball fragmented, you can specify the number of fragments. This detailed information helps researchers determine trajectories and orbits.

How does this app help with scientific research?

Your reported sightings contribute to the Desert Fireball Network's research, which is expanding into a Global Fireball Observatory with NASA. By collecting data on fireballs and meteorites, scientists aim to understand the early workings of the solar system. Your contributions help triangulate trajectories and determine the origin of these celestial objects.
