Firestorm does not use simple on/off switching. It creates continuous fire-style flicker using randomized brightness and timing, with multiple intensity modes and optional flame flares. If the effect did not appear correctly, support can help troubleshoot at support@firestorm.scottdodson.dev.

I really wanted this to be like a candle light but the movements are like to general it needs more control for the kind of candle light. It feels somehow like lights are being moved vs candle flicker. It needs a quicker flick and less brightness and different slight color change. Now it feels artificial and I paid for the app so I was hoping it would replicate candle light

You can adjust the Flicker Speed, disable Flicker Delay (which adds time between flickers), and enable Flares (quick, bright flame bursts) in Settings for a more natural effect. Feel free to reach out to support@firestorm.scottdodson.dev if you need further assistance.

Great app but with some niggles.

Works as described, great FX!

But there are some niggles. When trying to override the state that the app set with something like the Apple Home app or Google Assistant nothing happens.

Hello, thank you for your review. I understand that you're unable to control your lights with other apps while Firestorm for Hue is running. This happens because the app actively manages your lights, adjusting settings like color and brightness to create the effects. To regain control of your lights, you just need to toggle off the currently running fire mode in the app. Once you do this, your lights should respond normally to other applications. Very limited

Why does it always feel like no one uses their own products?? You can only set one light or group of lights at a time. So if you want different colors to flicker at the same time don’t use this app. All I want to do is set up dark purple and dark orange to flicker for Halloween. Why is this so hard to accomplish??

Exactly as advertised

I’ve been using this and the Thunderstorm app with a few different types of Hue bulbs and it works exactly as advertised. Well, well worth the $3 for all they can do. A lot of options in the apps too.

Total waste

Completely took over my Phillips hue app and now all my lighting is messed up. Made me 1000$ set up worthless. Do not purchase

To clarify, while Firestorm for Hue communicates with your lights in various ways, it only makes changes to your Philips Hue App setup when you manually add or delete light zones within the app. I understand how important this is for you, and I'm here to help. Auto Brightness

Hey -

I have noticed that my “non color” hue lights (yellow lights) do not function properly with this app.

I try and either turn them off - but then they turn back on -

Or

I try and dim them all the way down and then they always come back up to atleast 50%

Please help!!!

I would live this app if that bug was fixed.

If you do not want to use your "non color" hue lights with the app, you can create a new group with just your hue color lights on the Groups tab. Tap the newly created group in the list to select it. My favorite hue lights app

It does exactly what I wanted and has a lot of customizations. I love the campfire scene. It reminds me of fires at camp, while stuck at home in the winter. Bought in a 3 pack. My kids love the fireworks and other scenes as well.

One of the best candle flicker effects for Hue.

I’ve turned my front door lights into flickering candle effects and they look amazing. I have tried many apps but found this one to be the best so far and very easy to use.

Chronic Disconnetion

The features are more or less what I wanted. Which is an app that makes your Hue lights flicker with many customization options such as color, brightness, speed and even has a sleep timer.

I would have been very satisfied with the app if not for it constantly getting disconnected which requires you to walk to your Hue Bridge and press the button to reconnect. Not something you want when you're trying to relax which is what I cheifly use this app for. I don't understand why the app can't save the "pairing" (to the bridge) information when there are connection issues.

It's also annoying when the crackling fire sounds stop music, podcasts or videos that you are playing in other apps.

It’s a good App. But addition of Siri Shortcuts would take it to the next level

The only app that simulates Candles/Fireplace/Campfires properly. But it can’t be used with HomeKit automations because of lack of Siri Shortcuts support. Reserving 5 stars to the perfect app.
Also, the contact email within the app doesn’t work. My question to the developer bounced back.

Thank you for the review! The app does have an auto-start feature that allows you to choose a fire effect to automatically start when the app opens. You can then use Siri to open the app. Just say, "Hey Siri, open Firestorm for Hue." Please contact support@firestorm.scottdodson.dev if you have any questions.

Kinda disappointing.

This app is ok... Buts that's about it. The fire doesn't really flicker, it just fades into another color either slowly or quickly. That's pretty much it. The sound effects only worked on the fire and campfire... Idk if there was supposed to be for the candle or lava but neither made sounds...The audio is not great. You can hear it loop and it's a fairly short loop.

All in all I can create the same effect with other apps that I already have like iconnecthue and quite possibly get a better result.

Thank you for the feedback. The flicker effect runs at a random interval and brightness for each light independently. The Lava mode has the slowest flicker rate and the Campfire mode has the fastest, but you can override the default flicker rate under Settings. The Lava and Candlelight modes do not have sound effects. Please contact me at support@firestorm.scottdodson.io if there are any features you think are missing or could be improved upon. Edit: The latest update (2.1.0) added sound FX to Lava mode and Audio override under Settings.

Charged me $9.72 for an app that says is $1.99

Misleading immediately charged my credit car $9.72 for an app that is $1.99. I refuse to be robbed of my money, and the app is not even worth the $1.99

Initial issue, but works great now

Original: I access the app from my iPhone 10 and control Philips Hue lights. It works until the auto lock on the phone comes on after two minutes than the flickering stops. I can’t find a setting in the app to prevent it from stopping after the phone’s auto lock activates. I guess I could change the auto lock setting from two minutes to never, but it seems odd that I need to have my phone on for this to work.

Update: We use this app nearly every day with our Hue lights and per the developer recommendation, it works fine after I cycled my phone off and on. Five Stars.

Good Hue app, but audio needs work

This is one of the better Hue applications I’ve tried. The app design is very clean and the interface is intuitive and easy to use. The three light modes: candle, fireplace, and campfire are nice relaxing light modes that I use when taking a nap or just relaxing. That said, I only gave this app 3 stars because I believe there are some things that could be improved. The first is with the light speeds for the fireplace and campfire modes. The slow, medium, and fast settings are like a notch too fast. I would expect the slow setting to be more like a fire when it is dying down and and is mostly red coals, so the light would be primary at the red end of the color with only occasional yellow and pulsing very slowly. As it is, slow is more like a regular fire speed. Fast is way too fast. I think the designer may have been imagining a roaring bonfire, but to me if feels more like being in a house that is on fire. My second issue with this app is my biggest complaint, the audio needs some work. The first problem with the audio is that it is that the audio is the same no matter what speed the fireplace or campfire are set to. Yes, the audio is different for the fireplace and campfire, but when you can the fire speed the audio is the exact same whether it is slow, medium, or fast. My second complain is that their is a “tape hiss” type sound in the audio background. It sounds like the developer used a fairly cheap audio for the fireplace and campfire recordings. I use the app on my iPad Pro which has good speakers and I notice the hiss sound. I also connect the audio to my Bose Wave bookshelf audio system and there the hiss sound is really noticeable. All-in-all I like the Firestorm app and with some improvements to the speed modes and audio I think this could be a 5-star app.

Thank you for the feedback! The latest release (1.6.1) added a new Lava mode that glows at a much slower rate than the other fire modes. You can also now choose Glow from the Flicker Rate menu under Settings. The flicker rates for the other fire modes have been slowed down a bit as well. As for the "tape hiss" type sound, I'm not able to detect it on an iPad Pro or while using headphones. Please try redownloading the app to see if the problem persists. this one actually works

nice amount of control. the only problem is that the flicker isn't natural enough. almost feels mechanical. there should be very high frequency small brightness changes accompanied by smoother and bigger brightness and hue changes. the candle light option in hue go (you can do this by pressing it's button, not by the app) is doing it very good.

Rubbish really

Used it on my hue go lamp, I would have expected this to be perfect but no.
It's was flashing between colours or shades with such drastic impact that it seemed completely unrealistic.
Waste of money.
