Fisustaja

Fisustaja shows on a map where Finland's most promising rivers and streams are – and whether it's worth heading out right now. The app scores every river and stream in Finland (over 42,000 waterways) based on open geospatial data. The score combines four things anglers care about: • Migratory fish waters – the authorities' assessment of where salmonids move • Rapids – mapped rapids and fast-flowing stretches • River size – based on catchment area; wadeable rivers score best, not huge main channels or tiny brooks • Ecological status of waters – healthy waters correlate with good trout streams Results appear on the map in traffic-light colors: green is promising, yellow moderate, red poor. Tap a waterway to see the score breakdown. FLOW AND TIMING Flow rate determines whether a rapid is fishable. Fisustaja shows the latest flow reading from SYKE's monitoring stations, tells you whether flow is rising or falling, and draws a 60-day history graph. WATER LEVEL Water level tells the same story as flow, but from a denser network: SYKE has 787 reporting water level stations. Its own map layer shows in colour whether the water is rising or falling, and tapping a station gives you the reading and a 60-day chart. WATER TEMPERATURE Temperature tells you when the fish are feeding. Fisustaja shows the latest surface water temperature from SYKE's stations as its own map layer, with a history graph as well. Stations are sparse, so you can measure yourself: tap a river on the map and add your reading. Other anglers see it right away. Readings reported by anglers carry a thermometer with a small k in the corner – SYKE's official stations stay clearly their own. DATA SOURCES The app is built on open data: the Finnish Environment Institute SYKE (waterway network, water status, flow, water level and temperature, CC BY 4.0), the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and the ELY Centres (boundaries of migratory fish waters, used as scoring input), and OpenStreetMap contributors (base map and rapids).
