Flashpoint R2 User Reviews

Never got it to work

I paired it once with the R2 trigger, but it never fired the flash, despite the actual trigger working fine with my EVOLV 200. Then it lost connection and never discovered the trigger on Bluetooth again. No recent updates. This is an abandoned app without documentation or support.

Worthless app

This app really doesn’t do anything and if it does, there are no instructions or help of any kind. It’s like someone thought this would be a cool idea (connect a flash controller via Bluetooth to a phone), but didn’t follow through.

Automation of Flashpoint R2

Please allow iOS shortcuts and scripting in the Flashpoint R2 app.

Photography is extremely time and effort intense. Small improvements have great gains.

I've streamlined my shooting in the macOS arena, using scripting and plan to so with mobile devices.

Super handy but...

Works great when paired with R2 on iPhone! It'd be even better if it worked in landscape on iPad not just vertical. GUI could aslo be improved by quicker response.

Please Update

Wanted to pile on and ask Godox to put in some work on this app. Having it take pictures and fire the strobe through the trigger it is connected to would be a dream come true. It can already test fire. A few more lines of code and we’re there.

Fix the camera please

Test flash works, but camera will not take a picture or fire flash.

Recycling

Same as the other reviews… Evidently this app has not worked for years. Every time you try to take a photo, the app just says “recycling” and will not take a picture. All other functionality is pretty much useless from there. Wish I had read the reviews before downloading and spending all this time trying to set this up :(

🤷🏻‍♂️

Doesn’t connect…it seems to be a good “idea” but the app is DOA.

Not working

Wen I try to shoot, say recycling

Split View/landscape support please!

I am writing this hoping that the developers see it.

I love the app and use it everyday for work on my iPad. I use this app while also using the CamRanger app and it is quite inconvenient to have to switch back and forth between the apps constantly. If you could PLEASE make this app compatible with landscape view and Split View on iPad this would be so much more convenient and would increase my workflow tremendously. Thank you so much!

Useless

I see absolutely no use in this app. Why do I want to use the cell phone to adjust parameters if I have the trigger? The ideal would be to be able to shoot with the cell phone and activate the flash. Silly app.

Works Great for me

I’m not certain how the other folks who rated the app use it, but I’ve not had any issues for my purposes. I primarily use it to control the Power values on 5 or 6 GODOX and Flashpoint mono-lights at a time for my DSLR - don’t use the camera option at all. It quickly connects to the trigger and allows easily changing values for any group. I especially like the ability to put any group in standby mode which makes testing a single group at a time very easy. The function to export and import all settings at once along with a photo of the result is handy since I use multiple cameras and multiple triggers at the same time.

AWB does not work, displays whatever the last manually selected WB was/is.

AWB for my local iPhone 10XS Max Camera does not work in this app at all. The App fails 100% on this front - forcing me to manually select WB from the App’s preset options. Once one has been selected if you try the “AWB” again it will show the output based on the previous manually selected option so it is definitely NOT AWB. Switching to Incandescent and then to AWB will yield the exact same result (note only after selecting “Incandescent” at least one time prior to setting AWB). If I attempt AWB to begin with the colors are unacceptably poor. There’s Simply Not enough QA on this App. Note that I got this App for the Wireless Flash Control options, I didn’t even know it had a phone Camera function… Personally I would remove that function until it actually works and focus QA efforts towards the Flash Control aspect as that is clearly *the selling point here*. To be fair there may be some customers that use an iPad/phone camera for RealEstate and need to use Real Flashes but the majority of users are here for granular control over R2 Pro controlled strobes and GoDox units. That *really* that needs to work before releasing the iPad/iPhone Camera feature in the App. On the strobe/flash control side I’m still testing the App with my AD200’s and Sony mounted R2ProMark2. I’ll provide more feedback as needed.

Stop wasting our time

I’m another customer who just wasted time and effort on trying to get this app to work, but getting the same error “recycling” message that others reported almost a year ago?

Stop wasting our time and either fix this bug or pull the app from the store.

I wanted to love this

Profoto recently made huge waves by allowing iPhone users to connect with and use their strobes with their phones camera. With their price being so far out of reach, I figured I just wouldn't ever get that feature.. But today after getting my R2 transmitter, I found buried at the back of the book mention of this app and the ability to do just that!

But as others have stated almost a year ago now, I can connect to the R2, I can configure and test for the strobes, but once I enter the camera portion of the app? No strobe. Only a message: "Recycling..."

And that basically drops the appeal of this app to nil for me. Maybe I'd use it two or three times a year to mass-configure my lights, but why would I scramble to do with my phone what I could easily accomplish with the camera and transmitter that's already in my hands?

Needs to be updated for newer iPhones!

First off, since I’ve seen a lot of password complaints here... the default password is 000000 for the M1 Pro/A1. To reset to defaults, hold down power+set while turning on until you see the firmware version displayed.
Now for my review. There are sync issues with iPhone 11 Pro and Flashpoint M1 Pro. Flash will fire and all functions work perfectly except for the actual flash & shutter are out of sync. It’s essentially useless for newer iPhone photography. I tried the Godox and Flashpoint apps and neither work. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Seems like it’s broken with the iPhone X and newer. Older iPhones and androids have fewer, if any, issues. I tested it with my (older) iPad Pro 9.7” and it works consistently as long as the focus is locked before pressing the shutter. AF plus flash at the same time seems to cause sync issues. This testing is with most recent firmware available at review time 5/2020 (Ver 2.4).

Does not work!!

This would be amazing if it actually worked. Being able to use a real flash system with an iPhone camera would be game changing. However every time you press the shutter button a message appears saying ‘recycling’ and nothing happens. Pressing Test in the flash menu works fine.

Can’t connect to the trigger

Would be good if it can actually connect to the trigger

Does not fire the flash in Camera mode

This feature to trigger OCF via Bluetooth with the R2 Transmitter would be a game changer for all iPhonographers. Even though I am able to successfully pair the R2 Transmitter and test fire the flash, once in the Camera mode, as another reviewer stated, the flash will NOT fire. Without firing, it only indicates status that it is “recycling”. I am using the latest firmware on the Tranmitter which is v 1.5.

It's OK

Does what it says it will do although just a bit odd in spots. There is a current bug, however, where the transmitter fails to sync the FEC consistently with the app while in TTL mode. Adorama has confirmed this and informed Godox. Awaiting firmware update. (Sony version)
