Way to screw up a good idea šŸ‘Ž

Who’s the brain trust who decided to change everything. I don’t want a mystery behind a door that I cannot open. Fix this crap, or I’m done.

Needs an iPad version

The keyboard is too tiny to type on in the simulated iPhone version.

This used to be so much fun

This is the third or fourth year my wife has lovingly given me the Flaviar advent calendar as a Christmas gift. Until now, they’ve always been fun. I could read about the whiskeys, read other people’s tasting notes and reviews, see the cool flavor spiral, and add my own notes. Now it’s like I’m taking a college final before I can even find out what I’m tasting, and as far as I can tell I can’t see anyone else’s reviews or notes. The booklet is worthless—I might as well have a $0.50 little notebook. The tastes are still great, but Flaviar has tried too hard and sucked all of the joy out of it. I told my wife thanks very much for the gift, but no need to buy it for me again. It’s just no fun anymore with the changes they’ve made. (The rating is for the app only, as well as the worthless notebook, and not the whiskeys themselves.)

A later edit (Jan. 12, 2023): just confirming what a disappointing experience this has been this year. Just trying to find out what I’m drinking is a ridiculous, no fun experience. I have no idea what other people think about the whiskey I’m drinking, and I really have no interest in comparing one sample to the previous ones. They really have sucked all of the fun out of this. I’m very disappointed, and I’m going to ask my wife to stop spending money on these for future years. Flaviar blew it, and we won’t be doing this anymore. I will have a lot more fun just getting bottles from BevMo and other places and giving them a shot.

Doesn’t work at all.

App doesn’t work. Just told me that I scan QT code that takes me to website. Can’t get around it. Can’t enter data. Can’t get any information through app. Worthless.

Doesn’t work

The app doesn’t work. QR codes don’t work

Worst idea ever!

Who had the stupid idea to send a blank book and make us use this useless app?

Love the Tasting, Not Wild About This App

This is the second year I’ve purchased the Flaviar advent tasting package and the whiskey doesn’t disappoint. But the design of this app is frustrating. Being forced to both write notes about the taster I just had and also compare it against the last three tasters (some of which I haven’t tasted in many days because I’m not doing this one taster per day, preferring instead to group them in trios like I typically get with my Flaviar subscription) just to see the name of the whiskey I’m drinking is incredibly annoying, because I cannot bypass those steps. Whereas I imagine some people are enjoying the gamification of this process, it feels more like I’m being required to provide the company with market research information that instead of being paid for, I paid them. The fact that they still provided a booklet but that it doesn’t include any details about the tastings seems like a waste. In the future I hope they make the notes and ratings optional OR return to including the names and details of the tasters in the paper booklet so I have a choice.

Too Many Hoops

Last year I actually bought more from the calendar than this year because it is such a pita to find out what the sample is. I have to rate against previous samples when I may not even remember the whiskeys I’m being asked to compare it too. Please go back to the old style from 2021!

Wrong whiskey displayed for each day

A little disappointed it took me 9 days to figure it out, but a TON of the whiskeys listed on this app do not match the day that you pull them out. Some folks are saying the website works better, so I’m going to just keep logging my thoughts each day and cross referencing them to the app notes I guess…

Terrible UX

I can’t see anything about the whiskey I try unless I rate every single bottle before hand. I’m on day 19 (haven’t opened every day) and I can’t see the flavor profile of day 19 unless I rate everything. Don’t lock us out of stuff for no reason. Also it took ages for me to even find the tasting notes in the first place. Last year’s was UX was ages better than this.

Don’t like being forced to use it, but I like it

I love the idea of being able to do a blind taste test of all the whiskey digitally! The app seems well designed and is working for me so far. In the future, I would still provide a booklet but advertise the app as a great way to learn more about your whiskey preferences.

Incorrect information

The whole point of the app is to accompany the advent calendar, but the whiskeys shown in the app don’t match what’s in the calendar. Bottles say their ABV and country of origin, which are different than what the app claims. I may not be a whiskey expert, but I know the difference between a rye, bourbon, Scotch, and Irish whiskey, but the app has them all mixed up. Useless.

Doesn’t show correct advent scotch’s

Shows the wrong info for advent calendar. Emailed for support and both solutions poor: reinstall (same problem), or use a PDF (doesn’t provide any of the info the app should). Quite a disappointment. Feels like a waste of good liquor since I don’t even have confidence it what it is I’m actually drinking.

No Reason for This App to Exist…

… other than to mine you for data. This is a perfect example of a company deciding they need an app (again, to mine you for data) when a 24 page booklet would do the job far better from the user’s perspective. Heck, they already give you the darned booklet, they just don’t put the relevant information in it! Sure, include QR codes to link me to the tasting videos maybe, but otherwise let me enjoy this whole experience without it it being tech-enabled. Given what this calendar costs, I shouldn’t be forced to rank each whiskey in the collection just to see the next whiskey in the list. A nice idea ruined.

App displays wrong whiskeys.

I need to use the website since the Advent Calendar 2022 I have has a 45% ABV sample for day 1 and the app is showing me a 44%. Day 2 bottle said USA and the app had a Welsh whiskey. I cannot change the app to bring up my box which starts with the 45% sample.

Makes learning easy

I’m trying to learn to develop my palette and try a lot of things at once and this does a great job at that. It’s got a couple bugs but it’s a new app and I’m sure they’ll fix it. Heck. I had the first iPhone and that had a ton of bugs. I especially love the comparison section where they ask you to compare different spirits so they can make better recommends. They are on to something here.

App does not line up with all 2022 Advent Calendars

The desktop webpage for the "basic web experience" asks users to choose the ABV from their first vial because that determines what the contents of the remaining vials are. I discovered this when I opened day 2 and it did not match what the app described at all. Not sure if it's a bug or a major oversight in which the app only works for 1/3 of the Advent Calendars, but it's frustrating.

App info doesn’t match bottle info

It’s all horribly wrong. The whiskeys don’t match the app. Who knows what you’re actually drinking at this point.

Worked great for me

Seems simple to use for me. I installed the app and logged in then it told me to scan the QR code and I did. Then I reviewed the drink, wrote a description, and then pressed the reveal button and saw what it was. Seems to work exactly as planned. I think these other users are having PEBCAK errors.

Flaviar App

Seems like a great idea but when I log in the app freezes and I can’t proceed. Seems more work is needed to make it a usable app.
