Not sure what to watch tonight? Flicker asks five quick questions, a different mix every time, then hands you three films that fit the night, each with a note on why it was picked. Two well-loved films and one deep cut, pulled live from TMDb's catalogue, never a fixed list.
HOW IT WORKS
Answer a handful of quick questions about mood, time, company, era, tone, how much attention you can give it, and how you want it to end. The questions are drawn from a pool of two dozen, so it never feels like the same quiz twice. Flicker turns your answers into tonight's programme: three full-page reviews you can swipe through, with the trailer and where to stream each one.
MADE FOR THE EVENING
- Watch This Tonight: pick a film and it headlines your Home screen and widget for the evening
- Share your pick as a clipped-out ticket, made for Stories and group chats
- The next morning, rate it in one tap, and your future picks lean your way
- Pick three films you love when you start, so your very first programme already knows your taste
- Surprise Me skips the questions when you just want something good
- Widgets for your Home Screen and Lock Screen, plus Siri: "Surprise me with Flicker"
NEVER THE SAME FILM TWICE
- Never repeats a film you've marked watched, seen recently, or told it you're not interested in
- Swap any single pick, or shuffle all three, without starting over
- Repeat your last set of answers in one tap
- Connect a public Letterboxd username and films you've logged won't come back around
- Skip New Releases keeps films still in cinemas out of the mix
- Everything syncs free across your devices with iCloud, with no account needed
FLICKER PRO, OPTIONAL, ONE-TIME UNLOCK
Everything above is free, forever. Flicker Pro is a single $2.99 purchase, no subscription, that adds:
- With a Friend: Match mode, where you both swipe the same ten films and the first mutual yes wins, plus a two-person quiz
- Unlimited swaps on every pick (free includes one swap per card)
- Customise which quiz categories always show up
- Your Taste Profile: a breakdown of the genres you actually watch and save
- Advanced filters: runtime, decade, streaming service and original language
TWO THINGS WORTH KNOWING
This app runs on TMDb. All film data, posters, ratings, trailers and streaming availability come from The Movie Database's API. This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.
Letterboxd sync is unofficial. Letterboxd has no public API for this feature. Flicker reads your public diary feed with your permission. It covers recent activity, not your full history, and could change if Letterboxd's feed does.
No accounts. No ads. No tracking. Everything Flicker remembers about you stays on your device or in your own iCloud.
