About
Check what lies ahead before you set off.
FloodAhead helps you check a driving route against current flood warnings and reported road closures. It detects where your selected route crosses Environment Agency flood warning areas and combines this with supported road closure and restriction information from National Highways.
Instead of checking a flood map and road information separately, FloodAhead brings both into one route-focused view.
CHECK YOUR ROUTE
Choose a destination and see whether your route crosses any current flood warning areas or reported road events.
COMPARE ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
Compare available routes using detected flood warnings, reported road closures and restrictions, and estimated journey time.
FloodAhead does not label a route as “safe”. It gives you clear information about what has been detected so you can make your own travel decision.
SEE WHAT AFFECTS YOUR JOURNEY
For each detected warning or road event you can see:
• the type of warning or restriction
• where it appears along your journey
• the distance from the start of your route
• how much of the route is affected
• the official data source
FLOOD WARNING MAP
Explore current flood warning areas on the map and see reported road events in the same place.
SAVED JOURNEYS
Keep frequently used routes ready for quick access.
Save places such as Home and Work, revisit recently checked journeys and quickly check the same route again when conditions change.
OPEN YOUR ROUTE IN YOUR NAVIGATION APP
Once you have reviewed your journey, open your selected destination in your navigation app and continue from there.
OFFICIAL DATA SOURCES
FloodAhead uses data from:
• Environment Agency
• National Highways
The app also indicates when source data is unavailable or may be out of date, so missing information is not presented as an all-clear.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
FloodAhead does not confirm that a specific road is flooded or safe to drive.
When a route crosses a flood warning area, this means the route geometry intersects an area covered by a current official warning. It does not necessarily mean that every road within that area is flooded.
Road closure and restriction information is limited to supported National Highways data.
Always follow official advice, road signs, emergency instructions and local road closures.
