FlowTalk is now a debate app. That is not a figure of speech, and this is not a routine update. WHAT HAPPENED FlowTalk was a conversation-confidence app: small talk, dating, making friends. If that is what you downloaded, please read this before you open it, because you are about to find a different product. What people kept coming back for was never "how do I start a conversation". It was "how do I hold my ground when someone pushes back" — the flatmate, the boss, the relative at Sunday lunch. The machine underneath was already right for that: a practice loop where the other person answers back, a coach that debriefs, streaks and levels. So the whole thing has been rebuilt around arguing well, and we would rather say so plainly than let you discover it three screens in. The old scenarios are gone. In their place: 54 motions across nine arenas, an opponent that argues the strongest honest version of the other side, and a coach who marks structure, logic, evidence and composure. YOUR PROGRESS CARRIES ACROSS Your streak, your longest streak, your totals, your practice history, your saved discussions and your journal all survive — the app upgrades your saved data on first launch, and your old goals map to the nearest new one. Two things reset, both because the content itself is new: the per-topic breakdown, and which lessons you have ticked as read. The 30 lessons are new ones, so nobody starts them half-finished. WHAT IT IS NOW A motion appears. You make your case. The other side pushes back — properly, not politely. When the round closes the coach debriefs your actual words: what landed, a stronger version of your own argument, one thing to fix, and four marks. Nine arenas: everyday disagreements, work and meetings, money and negotiation, politics and society, ethics, culture, science, formal debate and public speaking. Formal debate includes opening speeches, thirty-second rebuttal drills and points of information. 30 new daily lessons on argument, each citing the book or study it distils — Toulmin, Aristotle, Kahneman, Voss, Cialdini, Popper, Haidt, Graham. Eight new levels, from Finding Your Feet to Unshakeable, each naming something you can actually do. It argues both sides and takes none. The opponent argues whichever side you are not on and never reveals a view of its own. The coach judges the skill, never the position. There is even a drill that asks you to make the best case for the view you disagree with most. A new look — black, purple and white, dark by default — and five languages: English, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese. IF THIS ISN'T FOR YOU That is a fair call, and we would rather you made it knowingly than quietly. Your data stays yours either way: Settings has a backup that downloads everything you have done, and a delete that really deletes. And if it is for you: three motions a day is the whole ask.
