About
Know what's in a book before you open it.
Foreword tells you what a book contains before you start reading. Choose the content you'd rather know about, search any title, and see which of your notes it contains—named plainly, in words, before page one.
No flashing red. No scary badges. Most tools shout in color: a red dot, an alarm before you've even decided you care. Foreword does the opposite. It names what's there, calmly and specifically, and lets you decide.
HOW IT WORKS
• Choose your notes — Pick from a curated list of the content you'd rather know about: grief, harm, abuse, whatever's yours. Stored only on your device.
• Search any book — One field for every book: the novel you're starting tonight, a recent read, or a recommendation you're unsure about.
• See what's there — Foreword tells you in plain words which of your notes the title contains. Calm, specific, never a wall of warnings.
FOUR TRUSTED SOURCES, ALWAYS LABELLED
Every result shows where its information came from:
• Trigger Warning Database — reader-curated content warnings built for books
• DoesTheDogDie — the original crowdsourced trigger community
• Claude by Anthropic — AI-assisted for books not yet in the databases, always clearly flagged
• The Foreword community — readers add and vote on notes, shown anonymously
BUILT TO KNOW AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE
• No account needed to search, read, or vote
• No ads, no analytics, no third-party trackers
• Your notes list stays only on your device
• Fully legible if you're color-blind—the meaning is in the words
Reading, searching, and voting are always anonymous. Adding your own note takes only an anonymous sign-in with Apple—never your name or email.
Free. Calm by design. Read it, forewarned.
