Excellent Application

Great app, does everything I need to keep my formulas, accords and raw material + costs.

Few improvement that will help alot are as follows:

Group the formula raw materials by Top, Core, Base not just Pyramid symbol.

Also when printing the product it should also group it by Top, Core and Base.

Also when creating categories to group the formulas, it should allow to create sub categories, for example.

Au d’ Perfume
- Women
Perfume 1

- Men
Perfume 1

Straight d’ Perfume
- Women
Perfume 1

- Men
Perfume 1
Perfume 2

Aspire Perfumes
- Woman
- Man

Accords
- Top Accords
Accord1
Accord2

- Core Accords
Accord 1

- Base Accords
Accord1
Accord2

Do that and the app will be event better make por life easier.

Very Helpful Tool

I have been using this tool for all of my homemade formulations and not just for homemade perfumery. It does lack a formula batch log where you can log the date and size of new batches and then it tracks your raw materials inventory so you know when to reorder. That is the only thing I have noticed that would be on my ‘wish list’ for a future release, but not a ‘must have’ at this point. I love it.

Kind of a pain

I’d rather just enter everything into a spreadsheet and not have to worry about filling out all these new fields and learning the quirks of a new app

Love Formulair!

I am just starting on my perfumery journey but I am finding this app so useful. I look forward to continuing to use it to build formulas and keep myself organized. Thanks!

Nice start but lacking a proper feature set - seems it is no longer being developed

This is a great start but for the $40 I paid for it, and seeing there is no update for 1.5 years now, I’m a bit disappointed.

There is no way to batch edit multiple items, which seems like a core feature when working with so many materials. The material import is extremely basic. If you get the import wrong, your only recourse is to manually edit every item one by one or delete the app, clear your cache, and start over entirely - this isn’t acceptable in my opinion. The fact you can’t even reset your library without deleting the entire app is an oversight.

Again, it’s a good start but it’s surprisingly lacking. I don’t think it is worth the money they’re asking as it is now.

FAQ

What does Formulair do?

Formulair is a digital tool designed for perfumers to organize their raw materials and create fragrance formulas. It allows you to track detailed information about each ingredient, manage formula compositions, and visualize scent profiles. The app aims to provide a more connected and organized experience than traditional pen and paper methods.

What are the key features of Formulair?

Key features include organizing raw materials with detailed cards (supplier, IFRA limits, cost), creating and managing formulas with precise weight measurements, a custom scaling engine for formulas, visualizing fragrance pyramids and ingredient categories, tracking dilutions, and exporting formulas to PDF, Markdown, or TSV formats. It also offers color-coding for raw materials and supports light/dark modes.

How much does Formulair cost?

The app offers a free version that allows you to add up to 25 raw materials and 25 formulas. To unlock unlimited creation of raw materials and formulas, a one-time in-app purchase is available to buy the full version of the app.

What are the common use cases for Formulair?

Common use cases include apprentice perfumers learning to create their first scents, self-taught perfumers who want to professionalize their process, and experienced perfumers looking for a digital solution to manage complex ingredient libraries and formulas. It's useful for tracking stock, managing costs, and experimenting with different scent combinations.

Is my data secure with Formulair?

Yes, your data is secured by Apple in a private iCloud container. This ensures that your sensitive formula information and raw material details are kept private and accessible only to you through your Apple account.
