Excellent App
Foxone is a must for all wishing to complete a PPL. It really helped me study for the complicated subjects and prepared me well for the exams!
You'll hopefully pass your test, but where is the value?
What it does:
Provides questions from the PPL test bank that allows you to see the questions and memorize answers for your South African PPL. Two modes, Study Mode and Test Mode. Test Mode is pretty useful in seeing how prepared you are for the actual test, has a timer, and grading/answers are provided at the end. Study Mode gives you every question in each topic are. The app functions smoothly and the interface is simple and attractive.
What it doesn't:
Number 1 drawback: answers are provided, but with no explanation or even a reference to where an explanation can be found. It simply tells you correct or incorrect. Furthermore, once you answer correctly, a "correct" dialog box opens and partially covers the answer. If you were able to clear the dialog box or even go back, it wouldn't a major issue. However, you are not able to go back in Study Mode until you complete the section (maybe 100+ questions to go through in order to come back and review them).
Number 2: it doesn't have all the questions from the actual tests. The website would lead you to believe that was the case. However, nowhere do they make that claim and they definitely don't deliver. Be warned, your actual test WILL have questions not contained in this app. Not many, but some.
Number 3: it doesn't provide you with an app free of typos - with such a clean and simple interface typos feel sloppy
Number 4: price. The "free" app with a R750 user name is cheeky at best, down right dishonest in reality. Similar FAA test prep software (with references and explanations) costs less than R150. Just because there is no app competition for the SA PPL doesn't mean we should accept a sloppy, "just enough" app
Number 5: it doesn't work offline. At least mine doesn't. Again, for R750, this is an annoying aspect of a generally helpful app.
Bottom line:
You get a functional app that will help you study/memorize (when you are connected to the internet). You will probably even pass your tests. However, at R750 (for airplane), I was expecting a lot more that this app simply does not deliver.
