DISPLAY

The size of the app screen is not customised for the iPad. The screen size displayed is of iPhone size. It is inconvenient to use and entire display area of iPad is not used. Kindly update the app for full screen utilisation. Rating is for the display only.

Response from developer

Hi Reader, Thank you for your feedback on the app's iPad UI. We apologize for the readability issue, it's currently optimized for phones, but we're working on iPad-specific enhancements for full-screen display. For priority help, email appsupport@thehindu.co.in.

Some Suggestions

The Frontline App is a wonderful new way to read the popular magazine. Although the experience is quite good, I would like to make some suggestions and alert the Devs of some Bugs.

On The Dark Mode:
- Though the Dark Grey Background in the dark mode is not problematic, it is not a true Dark Mode
- Suggestions would be to take TheHindu standalone app’s (or the Reuters app) dark mode feature and apply it to this UI. It is more modern and sleek to view. The black compliments well on LCD and OLED screens.
On Design Philosophy:
- While the app takes a novel approach by giving curated Articles on every section to read, the feature to read the magazine as is would be moresatisfactory.
- Taking inspiration from The Hindu ePaper would be beneficial as the “eMagazine” would allow users to read a Particular Issue in the Proper order (List of Contents as per the Physical Copy), but in their preferred mode of viewing (In this case Smart Article View, where one may tap on any article and read it as it were on phone or read it as they would any PDF)
- The Font formatting can also be tweaked to have varying line spacing and character spacing as the Books app on ios does.
- The new Liquid Glass may also be integrated into the app to allow users continuity in OS and the App UI and UX.
On Bugs:
- While viewing older articles, the AI summary and functions and basic scrolling functions encounter bugs
- There is considerable lag and the experience is not satisfactory.

In conclusion is a welcome addition to every Indian’s phone, and these suggestions are small but relevant cues.

Response from developer

Hi Vivaan Menon, Thank you for your thoughtful review of the Frontline App! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed it as a fresh way to experience the magazine. We appreciate your detailed feedback on dark mode, design, and bugs, it's incredibly helpful for improving the app. Dark Mode is a great suggestion! We already have this for Frontline Android app will include the same for iOS. The eMagazine idea like The Hindu ePaper, Adding issue-based reading with smart article views, proper content order, adjustable font spacing, and Liquid Glass continuity is on our radar. Sorry for the lag and issues with older articles, AI summaries, and scrolling. Our devs are prioritizing fixes for a smoother experience. Your input makes a real difference, thanks for helping us build a better app for every reader! For more details or to share additional thoughts, email us at appsupport@thehindu.co.in.

Great Content Buggy App

Random popups to buy subscriptions even when in subscriptions. The contents are really good but the app falls short.

Response from developer

Hi Reader, Thank you for your feedback. We understand that ads and subscription pop-ups can be intrusive. A lot of effort goes into providing quality content, which allows us to continue delivering it and improving your experience. Your input helps us improve, and we will take your concerns into consideration for future updates.

No iPad OS Version

This app works only on phone and is incompatible with iPad OS. It is difficult to read long articles on phone. Alternatively, there should be a provision to download the magazine as PDF and read it on iPad if there’s no tablet friendly version coming.

Response from developer

Hi Reader, Thanks for your feedback! We deeply respect your advice. We have forwarded your feedback to our tech team and will include it in upcoming updates.

Not optimised for iPad

Please make this app for iPad. Most readers will read this magazine on an e-reader, not a mobile phone. Listen to your readers and invest in optimising the experience for iPad, tablet, etc.

Response from developer

Hi Reader, We've forwarded your feedback to our developers. Thank you for taking the time to send us your feedback!
