About
Futures from Fiction is a native iOS field guide for anyone who has watched a scene and asked: could we actually build that? It connects speculative ideas from film and television to real-world progress, everyday barriers, and concrete next steps—with science context, career angles, and links to sources you can open and verify.
WHAT YOU GET
Each entry reads like a briefing, not a fan wiki. You will see where the idea was popularized in fiction, what labs and industry are doing now, what still blocks ordinary use, and next actions toward policy, engineering, standards, funding, or personal learning. Progress items use honest maturity labels—from early concepts through limited commercial use—so you can weigh hype against reality.
The launch catalog includes ten researched seed topics across AI and communication, mobility, law and society, human–computer interaction, medicine, neurotechnology, spatial computing, materials, and spaceflight physics—from translation and voice interfaces to electric flight, accountability, assistants, med-tech tropes, brain–computer hype, augmented reality norms, fictional ultra-materials versus real composites, and warp drive as story device versus real propulsion physics. Every entry follows one recipe: name the work, explain in original language, cite reputable sources, and separate demonstrated progress from open debate.
HOW YOU MOVE AROUND THE APP
Home surfaces catalog scale, shortcuts into major sections, and spotlight ideas. Full Ideas lists everything by category. Next Steps collects actions across the catalog; tap through for longer science-and-methods notes, career and side-project angles, and curated research links. Search finds entries by title, show, tag, category, or debut year. About covers data, privacy, and how fiction is referenced. Links open in an in-app browser so you can read originals without losing your place.
WHO IT IS FOR
Curious readers planning careers, coursework, side projects, or civic engagement—not plot recaps for trivia. Students exploring STEM or policy, teachers who want credible discussion hooks, career switchers comparing industries, and lifelong learners skeptical of viral “breakthrough” clips should find usable scaffolding. No science degree required; you should follow sources when a claim matters to you.
PRIVACY AND TRUST
The template ships without third-party analytics. Catalog data can live on your device for offline reading. External sites apply their own terms and privacy rules when you visit them. Fiction titles are descriptive pointers to where ideas became visible; the app is not sponsored by or affiliated with studios, publishers, or rights holders unless stated elsewhere.
IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS
This is general education, not medical, legal, financial, or safety advice. Technology and policy change; verify critical facts at primary sources before decisions about health, money, or compliance. If a developer enables optional remote catalog updates over HTTPS, what you see may refresh without a full app update; otherwise the bundled seed remains your offline baseline.
REQUIREMENTS
Futures from Fiction requires iOS 17 or later and runs on iPhone and iPad in a dark, high-contrast layout for long reading. Pull to refresh online for catalog revisions bundled with app updates. When a developer enables it, the app may merge updates from a secure HTTPS JSON feed using standard cache validators so the library can grow between store releases without sacrificing traceability.
FROM HAMMOCH APPS
Science fiction does not replace homework—it surfaces arguments early. Hammoch Apps plans to grow the catalog toward dozens of entries while preserving the same structure: fiction anchor, measured progress, candid barriers, sourced next steps, and plain-language deep dives when you want more than a paragraph. Download Futures from Fiction when you want cited sources beside the debate—not Hollywood-as-evidence claims.
