The Cagliari Municipal Art Gallery is a key element of the city's museum system, located in a historic building that has undergone numerous transformations. Originally built as a Savoy powder magazine in the late 18th century, the structure underwent its first significant renovation in 1828 thanks to architect Carlo Boyl di Putifigari, who renovated its exterior in a neoclassical style. In the 1930s, architect Ubaldo Badas further modified the building, transforming it into a modern art gallery, marking the birth of Sardinia's first civic museum. In 2000, when a new collection was established, the building was once again renovated, giving it its current appearance. Inside, the museum houses a rich selection of works spanning from 1840 to 1980, with a particular focus on 20th-century Sardinian artists.
