Software is shocking
Catalyst 2 is really hard work. Never connects to the App and downloading videos is a constant issue.
Not fit for purpose
This device and app are simply not fit for purpose.
There are issues everywhere you look. I’ll list a few below:
- transferring videos from the device to your phone is painful. It is incredible slow and will fail 4 out of 5 times requiring you to restart. You also need to prevent your phone from sleeping by tapping the screen constantly for 45 mins.
- exporting laps to your phone rarely works. Most of the time, the app simply crashes. But if it does export, you often only get half a lap.
- Bluetooth audio will not connect to my car head unit.
- best laps and optimal laps are not syncing to my garmin vault subscription automatically (costs £10 a month)
- app seems to require internet connection in order to browse imported sessions. I would assume they were held locally on the phone.
This device should be recalled.

Don’t buy V2
This app is broken for catalyst v2 hardware. Saving a lap results in an app crash. I’m not sure how this app passed QA like this, extracting a lap with video was a huge bonus with the v1 setup.

Garmin is really the first data analysis tool any track driver should have. Its simple interface and ease of set up is what sets it apart.

So annoying
Everytime you try logging in the app just glitches anyways can’t even get logged in.
Upgrades
It needs the option to select 1-5 laps so you can see the optimum , from all different sessions

Wish i could watch reference videos side by side on the catalyst. The app is good for cataloging your lap times.

Lacking Video
This app is great on both the iPhone and iPad. The telemetry is very helpful to analyze on these device platforms to find areas for improvement. The user experience is intuitive, and I find it easy to connect the Catakyst to my phone hot spot to transfer the data to the cloud from the paddock. I know this feature was never promised, but I feel the lack of video review on my phone or iPad SHOULD be relatively simple for Garmin to add in today’s world of cloud computing. I pay for iCloud storage, so let me move my videos to my iCloud to review along with the driving telemetry data. This is why i’m only eating the app a 4 instead of a 5. Garmin team, you clearly know how to design a great app. I’m sure your product team wants to give their loyal users video!
