About

Write your novel in vertical Japanese, and keep writing in it. Genkocho is a vertical-writing editor for Japanese web novels and for manuscripts you plan to send to literary contests. Ruby (furigana), emphasis dots and upright numbers are typeset as you write, and your draft can be counted and exported in manuscript-paper format. ■ Write vertically ・Move the caret, select text and convert with the Japanese keyboard, all in vertical text ・Switch to horizontal text at any time, keeping the same draft and the same position ・Arrow keys on a hardware keyboard follow the vertical direction ・One-tap bar above the keyboard for ruby, emphasis dots, upright numbers, dashes, ellipses, brackets and indentation ・Pressing Return indents the next paragraph; starting with a bracket removes the indent and closes the bracket ■ Ruby, emphasis dots and upright numbers ・Write with the common web-novel notation such as |漢字《かんじ》 and 《《傍点》》 ・The paragraph you are editing shows the notation; other paragraphs show typeset ruby and dots ・Two-digit numbers and "!?" are set upright automatically ■ Count ・Character count, with or without spaces, line breaks and ruby ・Pages in 400-character manuscript paper and in contest formats such as 40 x 34 ・Daily goal, daily word count and writing streak ・Work targets and deadlines, with the characters needed per day ■ Organize ・Works, chapters and episodes, with reordering and episode status ・Plot, character and world notes, shown beside the manuscript on iPad ・Find and replace, and style checks for common Japanese writing conventions ■ Export ・Plain text converted to the notation of major web-novel sites ・Vertical PDF on 400-character manuscript paper, and printing ・With Plus: contest-format PDF (characters per line, lines per page, paper, cover, synopsis, page numbers) and vertical EPUB ■ Never lose a draft ・Autosave 1.5 seconds after you type, with recovery if the app quits before saving ・Version history every 10 minutes, on demand and before every restore ・iCloud sync between iPhone and iPad; if both devices change the same episode, both texts are kept ・Daily automatic backups with plain-text files you can open in Files or iCloud Drive ・Trash that keeps deleted items for 30 days ・All data-protection features work without Plus ■ iPad ・Three-column layout, Split View, Stage Manager, and a separate window for each episode ・Keyboard shortcuts for ruby, emphasis, versions, find and more ・With Plus: mark up a manuscript-paper proof with Apple Pencil ■ Genkocho Plus With Plus, you can use contest-format PDF, EPUB export, 30- and 90-day statistics, Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, Apple Pencil proofs, and extra fonts and paper colors. Family Sharing is supported. Writing, counting, version history, backups, sync, and text and manuscript-paper PDF export work without limits, with or without Plus. No account and no ads. Your manuscripts are stored only on this device and in your iCloud. The app is in Japanese.
