Update the app please
It has been 6 years now since it was last updated. Please update the app. I regularly use the app. Thanks
Mr.
I can't get a hold of tech support. I have two questions. 1) does this app work on an apple 4S iPhone? 2) does the output come relative to true or magnetic north?
Unable to take photo of discontinuity
App works well for measuring dip/dip direction but am unable to use app to take photos as app does not ask for permission to use camera.
Provide editing and support function
Would be useful to provide a support link for suggested software developments
Would also be great if you could edit location data, and provide calibration checks to ensure greater accuracy on recorded data

Best app for taking attitudes!
I've been using this app for about 2 years and it is fabulous. I don't even carry a bruton any more, and a few of the other geologists on my team have taken to it as well. I open different projects for bedding and structures, having a stereo net for each lets me see different domains develop as I map. Seeing that real time, in the field is very powerful. I haven't found any app as good as this one.

TAKE NOTE ON DIP DIRECTION
The iphone compass can vary by as much as 25 degrees depending upon the orientation of the phone in portrait or landscape mode. Whichever you choose. Be consistent.
Nice !!
Stereonet = Rock mechanic, rock and soil, slope stability wow!! Very useful ! Useful app for rock mechanics and rock engineering !!!
fantastic app
does what it's meant to. can't fault it considering the hardware it's designed for! maybe some integration with offline maps and GIS layers could be good.
Great app has everything you need to collect and analyze structural data!
This app is fantastic! I love the options to plot and analyze your data on stereo nets and rose diagrams, the ability to export a text or csv file, and the option to take a photo along with a measurement. This app is really well designed and easy to use.
Fast and Accurate
Fast, Accurate, and Easy to Use
Great app
Totally worth the money. Great job guys.
Great application
Great application. I love being able to plot stereonets on the go. While being able to use my phone as a compass clinometer is good, I find the ability to enter my own measurements and plot them to be even more useful (I trust my own compass more!). But best of all it is great to have an app that allows one to upload the results back to a computer in a txt or csv format. Well done!

Import
Overall i like this app. Although, It would be nice to be able to import data from a csv or txt
Field mapping tool
Great app. I am using it for field mapping and it makes my job so much easier. I would recommend this app for any field geologist for taking quick bedding, cleavage measurements.
Just one big annoying thing is that the coordinates get rounded to a total of 6 figures and this is not accurate enough for me. Please update the app to record the full coordinate. Thanks.

Cool app... but...
This app is cool if it would work properly. Manual input for strikes are backwards and you can't even enter them in strike and dip notation. If these problems would be fixed five stars for sure. Until then a waste of five dollars.
Great potential, but...
MDBarton's review is right on. The lack of English support is a major issue for me.
As a graduate student in Geology, the data I collect is in various formats: quad (N30W, 20NE), azimuth (330, 20) and direction/dip (060,20). While the app appears to display data in different formats, the input seems to be only direction/dip. I really need to be able to enter data from different workers in whatever format they provide, especially in the field.
As an iPhone/iPad developer (my real job!), I realize that the internal magnetometer and accelerometer is very precise, but not terribly accurate unless calibrated frequently. As such, I don't really trust the readings from someone else's iPhone/iPad unless I know how/when they calibrated it and whether the values are corrected for declination or not. With some apps, it's impossible to tell. I continue to prefer taking readings with my Brunton, then entering the data manually. Hence, the need for easy manual input in various formats.
Otherwise, this is a very useful application for quick analysis in the field.

Absolutely brilliant
This is going to be a huge help in my field trips coming up, and saved me a lot of money buying an expensive compass clino!
One thing I'd like in future though is better integrated maps; and GPS doesn't really seem to work that well... Otherwise astoundingly good.

Potential
This application has potential. Field structural measurements using the ipad are a little awkward (probably easier using an iphone). Biggest frustration is the lack of functionality to record information about each measurement, such as structural feature type, rock type or any other description. Without this, I probably wont use the application.

Great but...
Great app, however there are stability issues. needs updates I have an original I pad when I try to use the plot/ analyze tab the app mysteriously closes. As a structural geologist I'm willing to wait for that fix because this app has the potential to be extremely convenient
Great structure tool!
I think it's worth the money. Have yet to really test in field (want to do a Brunton vs smartphone test) but it worked well on some homemade structures I made. Many great options and very easy to use. Recommended for structural geologists!
What I liked:
-Lets you use your iPhone as a compass to measure strike/dip, trend/plunge by using magnetometer.
-Can enter data manually or using the magnetometer.
-Plots circles (planes), and points (lines) on a stereonet (10 or 2 degree option)
-Can compare stereonet to current plane.
-Can highlight intersections of planes on steronet.
-Many options to single out data on stereonet all quickly accessible.
-Failure Analysis
-Ability to export projects via bluetooth, email as text
-Ability to store multiple projects
-Very professional look (Looks like a tool and not a toy, if that matters to you)
What I didn't like:
-Won't export photo of stereonet (but you can always use the phone's 'Print Screen' function by simultaneously holding down "Hold" and the "Home" button. It says you can in the description, but I can't seem to find the option to send anything but a text file in either text or scv (comma separated values).
-Kind of expensive. Give us geologists a break. We need to be saving our money for beer!
