About

Cycling Advocacy is a map and directory for the cycling community. It connects three things on one screen: ghost bike memorials honoring cyclists lost to road violence, federal traffic fatality data, and the advocacy organizations working for safer streets. WHAT'S INSIDE Ghost bike memorials. A map of community-documented memorials marking where cyclists have died. Each entry shows location, the cyclist's story when available, and photos contributed by the community. Federal fatality data. Cyclist fatality records sourced from the U.S. NHTSA Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), a public dataset documenting fatal crashes on U.S. roadways. Each record includes attribution to the original source. Advocacy directory. Bicycle advocacy organizations across the United States and beyond. Find groups doing the work, claim and manage your own organization, and connect with the people fighting for safer cycling infrastructure. After a Crash. A practical checklist for what to do if you're in a crash — at the scene, exchanging information, with police and insurance. Built for cyclists. Not legal or medical advice. DATA SOURCES Fatality records come from NHTSA FARS: https://www.nhtsa.gov/research-data/fatality-analysis-reporting-system-fars Cycling Advocacy is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or any other government agency. Government data is displayed for informational purposes with citation to the original source. Ghost bike memorial data is contributed by users and reviewed by editors before publication. Additional records pull from OpenStreetMap.
