Delicious!

Such a great app for discovering good places to eat and recipes to make. I’m obsessed!

Response from developer

Thanks Kyymba, hopefully you've found your new favourite spot :)

iPad mode!

I might use this app if it displayed in landscape on the iPad.

Bring back the physical guide

I used to be able to buy and read the physical guide for the year for roughly $20. This was a good price and I was very happy to pay it. Now to get the full guide I will need to pay $156 a year. The SMH will still sell you a ‘critics picks’ magazine which is not the nice guide with all of the reviews that I used to buy every year. Really really disappointing.

Hi CosmoCantelope, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. We genuinely appreciate the feedback. We understand that moving away from a traditional format is a big change. Our goal with the app is to make the Guide more useful in your daily life than a physical book could be. By going digital, we can now offer: Real-Time Accuracy: We publish more reviews throughout the year, ensuring you always on the pulse on the latest reviews and openings. Localised Content: Our interactive map plots the best dining options around where you are. Access to more reviews: Without the constraints of physical pages, the Good Food Guide has more reviews than ever before, and users have access to both the NSW and VIC Guides. We’ve noted your comments regarding the pricing. We are constantly evolving based on reader needs, and we truly hope the convenience of having the entire Guide in your pocket wins you over.

Why not for iPad?

Why have you not yet made the app suitable for iPad?

Maps not correct

Just a warning to users, in my initial review there are loads of map errors placing restaurants in completely the wrong location on their map. Examples are The Middle Park European shown in the middle of Albert Park and Agetha’s near St Kilda Road not in South Melbourne market. Also noted price icons in body of report don’t match the headline icons. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Response from developer

Hi Steve in Sing, thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We have resolved the location issue around The Middle Park European, we apologise for inconvenience and we appreciate that you have flagged this with us. Regarding the price icon mismatch, if you can give us an example we can look into it. Again, thank you for feedback and for using the app.

Ahhh the map!

Love the map feature!!! So handy

Response from developer

Great to hear scottie_bb, hope it has helped you find your next favourite place!

Best food app out there

Love the recipes, love the reviews!

Response from developer

Thanks for the review jwcm1989 🙂

Best app for finding restaurants worth your while!

Such a handy app. Love having access to the Good Food Guide on the go, and the map feature makes it so easy to find quality venues near me (not just fine dining either, lots of cheap and cheerful options too!)

Response from developer

Great to hear, thanks for the review :)

Love the recipes

All great recipes from my favourite chefs, easy to find and share with friends 😊

Response from developer

Thanks for the review!

Lacking decent search

The app replaces the digital edition of the good GFG. The digital edition was organised into geographical areas. The new app isn’t and geographical search it very poor. Why can’t you just search CBD and get all the restaurants as before

Response from developer

Thanks for the review Tony! We will be looking to create a collection of geographical areas off the back of this feedback. Keep an eye out for it in the Good Food Guide carousel.

New favourite app

Love this addition to my kitchen. Great recipes plus maps to find hidden gems nearby 👌🏽

Response from developer

Thanks for the review!

Tablet

Not sure how good it is because it doesn’t adapt for tablets and is impossible to read on the side

Response from developer

Thanks for the review Acorn2761. We will be working toward making the app available in landscape view in the new year. Keep an eye out for future updates.

Fake promotion

The app is good but the promotion has charged me the full amount plus the monthly fee. Hence, I have cancelled my subscription. Obviously, the team didn’t test it properly

Response from developer

Thanks for getting in touch HeyAlfred. That doesn't sound right, we'd like to better understand what's happened here. You can contact our customer service team on 1800 237 266 or via our website https://help.goodfood.com.au/hc/en-au who can assist.

Content is good but app needs work

Mostly a wrapper for the website. The restaurant reviews are excellent. Some small changes would improve the app - especially a dedicated button on the navigation bar for map view/places near me.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review MattD_86. We've got some app updates on the way that we hope will improve your experience. Keep an eye out for our next one next week :)

Good but some room for improvement

App has been good so far and I like the look and feel of it but I would highly recommend there being the functionality to save recipes for future easy access rather than having to remember the recipe and search for it each time.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review Barrington Mess! Glad to hear you're enjoying the Good Food app experience. We are working towards Save functionality and hope to release it soon. Keep an eye out for upcoming app updates.

What I’ve Been Waiting For

I love the printed Good Food Guide, but you can’t take it with you. This app is so good! It has all the reviews, all the hats, all the critics’ picks, and the map function is so handy for searching near you or anywhere you’re going. Love getting the weekly reviews, news and recipes too.

Response from developer

Great to hear Blue Manna, plenty more to come in upcoming updates that we hope you will enjoy :)

Great content but where are the features that add value

For the significant price of the subscription for this app (on top of a regular subscription to the Age) this should at least offer features like saving reviews and recipes, or creating itineraries.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review ms_explody. We have save functionality coming up in a future release, as well as other new features that we hope will improve your Good Food app experience.

Functional and easy to search

It’s nice to see the app help figure out what to cook with the ingredients at home as well as recommend what to eat out nearby. I would like to add notes to recipes and add it would be nice to book tables at the restaurants from app.

Response from developer

Thanks for the review NaVa131022. Keep an eye out for future updates that will include enhancements to recipes and ways to interact with your favourite restaurants.

Very useful

Loving the map and nearby function to search for dining out suggestions. So helpful and user-friendly.

Response from developer

Great to hear basil, it will only get better with our upcoming updates :)

Expensive.

As a current basic digital subscriber I am being offered $3/week as a special deal but new subscribers only to Good food get $2/mth offer to start subscribing- doesn’t really make current customers feel valued at all.

Response from developer

Hi Ozzguy, thanks for your feedback and interest in Good Food. The two offers you mention are for different subscriptions and levels of access. The $3/week for three months offer you have seen is to upgrade to our Premium Digital subscription package. This includes all the news coverage you currently enjoy from your masthead (The Sydney Morning Herald or The Age) as part of your Starter Digital subscription, plus access to the Good Food app, which includes the digital Good Food Guide, and other premium features like puzzles, crosswords, sudoku, and the daily digital replica of the paper. The $2.09/week for six months offer is for standalone access to the Good Food app and its features. It does not include any access to news from the Herald or The Age or any other premium features (puzzles, crosswords, Today’s Paper). If you prefer to stay on your current Starter Digital package, you can continue reading a range of Good Food news, recipes and reviews online at either smh.com/goodfood or theage.com.au/goodfood. We apologise for the confusion. If you require further assistance with your subscription, you can contact our contact customer service centre on 1800 237 266.
