About

GPSRecorder captures a whole drive at once: camera video plus GPS and motion-sensor data on a single timeline. The result is a ready-to-use dataset for navigation research, trip analysis and machine learning. What gets recorded: • Video: H.264 720p at 4 Mbps with AAC audio. • GPS: coordinates, speed, altitude and heading — each value with its measurement accuracy. • IMU at 100 Hz: accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer. • Device motion at 100 Hz: linear acceleration, gravity vector, attitude quaternion. • A timestamp for every video frame, so frames align exactly with sensor readings. Features: • Live overlay on the camera preview: coordinates, speed, altitude, heading. • Recording continues in the background — lock the screen or switch to a navigation app. • Session list with date and file sizes; swipe to delete what you no longer need. • Export video.mp4 and data.jsonl.gz via the standard iOS share sheet or the Files app. • Slide-to-stop control, so a recording is never ended by an accidental tap. The data format is open: JSON Lines inside gzip, one line per measurement, timestamped in nanoseconds since device boot. Any Python script reads such a log directly — no intermediate export step. Privacy: recordings stay on the device. The app sends nothing to any server, contains no ads or analytics and requires no account. You decide what to share and with whom, manually, through the system share sheet. Requires an iPhone or iPad with iOS 18 or later. Camera, microphone and location access are needed for recording; the "Always" location permission keeps the GPS track from breaking when the app goes to the background. Note: the app interface is in Russian.
