GRIMMWELT Kassel

This is the official GRIMM WORLD Kassel app. Walk in the footsteps of the famous fairy tale archivists and linguists Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. Erected in 2015, our museum has been cited by the highly respected UK newspaper »The Guardian« as one of the Top Ten new museums in the world, and its storybook architecture has also been the subject of numerous awards. The exhibition uses the full range of today’s cutting edge technology to present Grimms’ Fairy Tales in a way that is exciting, eye-catching and interactive. The wolf from Little Red Riding Hood awaits the young girl’s visit in her grandmother’s bed, while the witch’s gingerbread house from Hansel and Gretel continues to fascinate visitors of all ages. These motifs naturally come from the Grimm brothers’ book of fairy tales, originally known as the »Children’s and Household Tales«. We are proud to house the Brothers Grimm’s original copies here in our “treasure chest”. These invaluable exhibits containing handwritten notes by the Grimm brothers were inducted into the UNESCO Memory of the World literature preservation programme in 2005. The section of our museum dedicated to the famous German dictionary initiated by the Brothers Grimm immerses you in the enchanting paper world of this monumental work. Our “Swear Word Judge” even bridges the gap between the past and present, providing the Grimm-era equivalents for today’s most common expletives (Only in German). After your tour be sure and take a break at our Falada café-&-restaurant, where every hungry explorer is sure to find relaxation and sustenance to their liking ranging from handmade cakes to burgers with 100% locally-sourced beef.
