NO BRAINER
This is what the sequencer part of Korg Gadget could have been. I’ve been using IOS apps for music nearly ten years now. I don’t usually feel compelled to write a review because I’m not usually that impressed. But this app is really really great. The groove box mentality is too much fun and easy to get building tracks on the fly. The features have been really well thought out and everything I would want is there - probability triggers, conditional triggers, step sequencing, automation, AU integration, resampling. Honestly it’s incredibly fun and I will be using it for years to come. I hope this app has a long life and I would be happy with it as is especially for the price - even if the dev doesn’t add any more features. Audio tracks would be nice but not a deal breaker for me. This is a groovebox afterall.

Another brilliant app from this developer, one that pushes the original groovebox concept into full DAW territory. I absolutely love the ability to record a few clips, launch them in different combinations, and save that performance onto a song timeline for further tweaking. A very satisfying workflow and a pleasure to interact with/look at too.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I was actually considering buying hardware boxes, but then GR2 came on the scene. It’s really beyond my wildest dreams. Blowing every other music making app away.
I knew it was going to be good because all his apps have that magic mojo sparkle.
There’s not enough space or time to go into everything GR2 can do…and now the latest update!
Everything is documented. Just go and read all this little monster can do.
I will admit it took me about a month or two to get used to it. But I’m a hobbyist with a full time job and family. So please give yourself some time to learn it and you won’t be disappointed .

Wonderful app but…
I’m an aspiring composer/producer who is finding this app to be a game-changer. More immediate and accessible than a full DAW. Best groove box type of app I’ve tried.
Edit: Bumping this to 5 stars, as the developer provided an alternative support channel in addition to Facebook (see below), which was my only complaint. The developer also acknowledged my minor bug report.

Need to improve the sequencer
This app is great for getting a song going. The addition of AUv3 is awesome. Lots to like. BUT- the sequencer is not fun to use. Even step sequencing drums is a bummer. Should be able to press a keyboard note and enter it into the step sequencer. Parameter locks per step would be great too. Hoping this gets addressed in future updates.

Great job on this one! The only thing I feel this app is missing is a note repeat for live play! If you added that this would be my #1 go to for iOS !
Clip activation features
So I’m giving it 5 because of all the updates and the pure ambition of this monster. But I really hope Jim is going to provide more performance options for individual clip activation. Please give us quantization from 0-1/64th. Another feature that would really set this apart in this regard would be playhead integrity— also known as “jump mode” in other sequencers. Patterning sequencers will stay on step maintaining progress even when switching to new “clips”. So we can switch from clip to clip, and when we switch the change can be quantized to whatever, but the newly selected clip will pick up on where the previous sequence left off, in terms of steps. We have not had anything like that since Modstep.

The daw view is what I was excited about until …
The tutorials on this really great idea for this daw are horrendous! Sound test room all of them concentrate on the drum view and using pads ! How does the Daw view work ? I see no relation between instruments and that time line at all and like many lame daws on iOS “widgets sprinkles” for navigation and editing. The piano roll is very good but it’s so disconnected from the timeline and instruments that aren’t even visible in the left column ! Pure garbage that basically do nothing in the TIMELINE were most editing should be done . But no this is another fidgety cripple box like Logic . If the creators are serious they with make very detailed step by step tutorials on how to use the daw like a daw himself ! I’ve been told one guy does everything in this company which explains why there are no tutorials made by the company itself which is sorely needed here . The idea this is also a host for third parties apps which all the others drop the ball on and makes this one the one I want to really learn drives me insane. You tube dudes do the worst tutorials ever! They always start with minimum info on how to get a SONG going first but instead waste chapter after chapter with the stuff that should always come AFTER awe learn how to make a tune FIRST! Something that ms to escape these idiot instructors on utube.😖

Simply a must have music creation station for your iPad. This is the ultimate groove box. Pair it with poison 202 and pure acid for full DAW like integration. It’s simply amazing and a fantastic must have.

This is a 10 star app,takes everything out there and puts in a complete package with a super easy to use interface with all the bells and whistles anyone could ever want. I made more music in 2 weeks since I began using apps in 2010. Can’t say enough about this except thanks a million for developing this

This thing is the bomb. So much capability for making music on the iPad. I have not touched my Elektron boxes for a week since getting this.

GR2 is just brilliant. Jim did it again. This a beauty of a groovebox app. Amazed at how Jim was able to cleverly develop and lay it all out. So smooth, stacked with functions and features, and the user interface is easy to figure out and navigate. It is so much fun to play with.

All of your apps are amazing, and this one just blew me away. Very glad I got this. Though, I wish I could have auv3 effects on the individual parts instead of just on the return buses. Overall, an amazing music production groovebox.

Ayooooo! What kinda sorcery Is this?
Ok, I stayed up until I couldn’t anymore last night for the pre order. My old head self went to sleep before it dropped. I wake up and here it is. After about an hour of noodling around I have a few takeaways. First off, Bravo Dmitrij! Your beats are also always pretty ill and your coding skills are a paragon of iOS development. We are quite lucky to have you.
Secondly, this isn’t a buy and check it out and it collects dust.. this is replacement for a lot of stuff. The sound engine is grand, the ease of use is great. The feeling of “I could just use this and be fine” is there.
This is capable for a wide range of music, but for us EDM producers…oh man..holy grail status.
At first glance it’s ticking all the boxes :)
