What's New in GuitarParrot

1.1.3

February 21, 2026

1.1.3 adds features to the Settings screen. In addition to the gameplay adjustments, there are now settings for changing the event sounds (win, miss, etc.) and the instrument sound that GuitarParrot uses for a more personalized experience. It might even make it more fun! A reset button puts all settings back to defaults. The "Continue" button has been renamed "Pop-Ups?" to make it more clear that this button turns the in-play pop-up messages on and off. Pop-Ups are now Off by default. As always, the app is can be played with any device orientation for maximum convenience. Available for iPhone, iPad and Silicon Mac.

The Parrott wins

I’ve been using Guitar Parrott for a few months. It’s great for sharpening your ear-to-fret board skills. Guitar Parrott creates and plays a random sequence of notes for you to play. When it’s your turn to replay the notes the fret board will be highlighted in green. If you played the sequence correctly the Parrott gives you a win and moves on to the next set of notes. Once you’ve failed the random samples 3 times, you’re out and you have to start over. The Parrott keeps score and has statistics for successful or failed attempts. For me, the Parrot wins most of the time. You can also select 4 note, 5 note or major scales to train with as well as changing Keys and tempos. Overall it’s a great tool for learning to play by ear.

Response from developer

Thanks for your review and for downloading my app! GuitarParrot was designed to be challenging, but don't give up! Start off with default settings and gradually increase the difficulty. My hope and desire is that you keep playing and begin to beat it at higher levels. A quick hint about gameplay: The different sounds (miss or not heard) indicate why you failed. If you get the Not Heard sound, it can simply happen because you simply played faster than the set Tempo expects notes. Try slowing down, or raising the Tempo. I personally like playing around 150 or 160. If you get the Miss sound, then it heard the wrong note. This can happen if you play two strings together (the strongest tone wins!), which happens to me when I get a little sloppy. Hang in there and have fun!

Fun and useful

Whether you are a guitar master or beginner, this app is fun and easy to use. No other guitar app like this!

Fantastic Learning Tool

... and fun too. So much thought went into this App's design. So easy to use. Great help documentation. This is a must buy for any serious student! I can't believe it can hear me and know what notes I played. Its like Shazam only better!

Response from developer

Thanks for downloading GuitarParrot! I am so glad that you see value in my app!  Shazam is quite different, but I greatly appreciate the compliment!  To clarify for other reading this review, GuitarParrot plays notes, then listens to the notes you play back and makes sure they match. Shazam is able to identify any recorded song in the world by hearing a small sample, which is amazing in a totally different way. Truly, both are amazing, but that's where the similarities end.

So glad I discovered this way of ear training. I use this app most days and I'm finding it a great help in improving my familiarity with the fretboard. No issues with stability and the features are great in that you can train in a variety of ways from simple to very challenging.
